BOYS BASKETBALL: Trier, Pilots roll past Stevenson

Allonzo Trier scored 27 points Saturday as Findlay Prep’s boys basketball team cruised to an 84-58 victory over Stevenson (Ill.) in the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

The Pilots, ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today, trailed early but went on a 19-2 run in the first half to take control.

Horace Spencer had 20 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots for Findlay, which outrebounded Stevenson 33-15. The Pilots were 36-for-55 (65.5 percent) from the field.

Derryck Thornton added 15 points, and Donnie Tillman scored 10 for Findlay.

Jalen Brunson had 26 points to pace No. 17 Stevenson.

Palo Verde 91, Faith Lutheran 89 — At Faith Lutheran, Grant Dressler scored nine of his 40 points in overtime as the Panthers edged the Crusaders.

Dressler scored the go-ahead bucket off a turnover with about 15 seconds to go in overtime.

Taylor Miller added 18 points, and Connor Lemmon scored 14 for Palo Verde.

Blake Bell led Faith Lutheran with 25 points. His three-point play with six seconds to go in regulation tied the game at 77 and forced overtime.

John Molchon added 15 points and 21 rebounds for the Crusaders, who got 16 points from Zach Friel and 11 points from Jaylen Fox.

Clark 60, Cheyenne 25 — At Clark, Colby Jackson scored 12 points as the Chargers routed the Desert Shields.

Clark outscored Cheyenne 31-6 in the second half.

Bruce Gaitor led the Desert Shields with nine points.

Renaissance Academy (Calif.) 57, Coronado 56 — At Los Alamitos, Calif., Nick Kornieck’s shot at the end of overtime rolled out, and the Wildcats edged the Cougars.

Jake DesJardins had 22 points to lead Coronado, which had a last-second shot go in and out at the end of regulation. Kornieck added 17 points for the Cougars.

Renaissance made two free throws to take the lead at the end of overtime. The Cougars got the ball with 12 seconds to play, and Kornieck drove but couldn’t get the shot to fall.

Paramount (Calif.) 74, Liberty 73 — At Durango, Nakia Golden scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Pirates rallied to top the Patriots in the Battle Born Classic.

Sherwin Lewis, who had 15 points, made a layup with 40 seconds left to give the Pirates the lead.

Jibri Walden added 14 points, and Jonathan Guzman scored 12 for Paramout, which trailed 58-55 after three quarters.

Ed O’Bannon had 19 points, and Tai Senior scored 14 for Liberty, which got 12 points from Joseph Bolden.

Elko 66, Chaparral 43 — At Durango, Eric Klekas led three double-figure scorers with 13 points as the Indians routed the Cowboys in the Battle Born Classic.

Nathan Klekas and Marshall Dumas each had 11 points for Elko, which led 37-22 at halftime.

Chaparral’s Samuel Porras made five 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Marc Silas added 11 points for the Cowboys.

Roosevelt (Calif.) 66, Centennial 50 — At Durango, Matt Mitchell scored 18 points, and the Mustangs hit 10 3-pointers to down the Bulldogs in the Battle Born Classic.

Jemari Baker had 15 points, and Alize Travis scored 10 for Roosevelt, which led 34-25 at halftime.

Isaiah Banks led Centennial with 12 points, and Darrian Traylor scored 10 for the Bulldogs.

Morningside (Calif.) 61, Durango 57 — At Durango, Charles Wright hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Monarchs by the Trailblazers.

Mahleek Gordon had 14 points, and Chio Harris scored 13 for Morningside, which outscored Durango 18-13 in the fourth quarter.

Alex Tarkanian and Apollo Corley each scored 13 points, and Victor Ross added 10 points for Durango. Michel Diggins added nine points, 13 rebounds and five assists for the Trailblazers.

Virgin Valley 45, Lincoln County 36 — At Panaca, Andrew Memmott scored 15 points to power the Bulldogs past the Lynx.

Marcus Saunders added 10 points for Virgin Valley, which led 19-5 after one quarter.

McClain O’Connor led Lincoln county with 21 points. Derek Shumway scored 11 for the Lynx.

The Meadows 73, Mountain View 56 — At The Meadows, Jake Epstein had 27 points to lead the Mustangs over the Saints.

Max Hisatake added 19 points, and teammate Ethan Fridman scored 11 for The Meadows. The Mustangs outscored Mountain View 27-16 in the third quarter to take a 54-39 lead.

Terrence Brooks paced Mountain View with 14 points. Tevin Gray had 12 points, and Tyrell Brooks scored 11 for the Saints.

Agassi Prep 72, White Pine 22 — At Agassi Prep, Deishuan Booker had 37 points, six assists and three steals as the Stars rolled past the Bobcats.

Ten players scored for Agassi Prep, which led 50-14 at the half.

Cody Bennett had seven points for White Pine.

Beatty 51, Round Mountain 38 — At Beatty, Jacob Oseguera had 15 points to lead the Hornets past the Knights.

Bryan Ortiz-Villalba and Wyatt Henry each added 10 points for Beatty, which led 15-7 after one quarter.

Round Mountain’s Bryce Hunter led all scorers with 22 points.
