DIVISION IV BOYS: Hoye helps Word of Life to first postseason win

Elijah Hoye scored 20 points Wednesday to help Word of Life’s boys basketball team collect its first postseason win with a 52-34 victory over visiting Tonopah in a Division IV Southern League quarterfinal.

Edoziem Okafor added 15 points, and Isaiah Manabat scored 12 for the Eagles (13-9), who led 19-6 after one quarter and advance to meet Spring Mountain (12-13) in a semifinal at 4:40 p.m. Friday at Chaparral.

Tyler Gallegos paced the Muckers (7-17) with 15 points, and teammate Jimmy Withers scored 11.

Pahranagat Valley 63, Round Mountain 43 — At Alamo, Cody Williams scored 22 points, and the Panthers used a 25-9 second-quarter run to down the Knights.

Shawn Wadsworth had 11 points, and Wade Leavitt scored 10 for Pahranagat Valley (8-17), which will face top-seeded Adelson School (16-1) in a semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday at Chaparral.

Carlos Chavez led Round Mountain (10-13) with 17 points.

‘Four best teams’ vying for 5A boys basketball state title

The top four Class 5A boys basketball teams — Coronado, Liberty, Bishop Gorman and Arbor View — will play for the state title Thursday and Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
