Findlay Prep earns bid to national basketball tournament

Findlay Prep’s boys basketball team was one of eight teams selected Wednesday for the National High School Invitational tournament in New York City.

The Pilots (28-1), ranked No. 6 in the latest USA Today Super 25 rankings, meet No. 17 Miller Grove (Ga.) in the quarterfinals March 31 at Christ the King High School. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

The semifinals are slated for April 1 at Christ the King. The title game takes place April 2 at Madison Square Garden and will be shown on ESPN.

This is the eighth consecutive year Findlay Prep has participated in the tournament, and the Pilots won the title in 2009, 2010 and 2012. Findlay Prep advanced to the semifinals of last season’s NHSI before losing to three-time defending champion Montverde Academy (Fla.) in overtime.

In addition to Findlay Prep, this year’s NHSI field includes Montverde, which is ranked No. 2 by USA Today, No. 3 Oak Hill Academy (Va.), No. 11 St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.), No. 12 La Lumiere (Ind.), No. 18 Providence Day (N.C.) and No. 19 Wasatch Academy (Utah).
