Marcus Allen’s second-half surge propels Centennial boys to victory

Marcus Allen tallied 20 of his 32 points in the second half Wednesday to lead Centennial’s boys basketball team to an 80-69 win over TEAM Englewood (Ill.) in the opening round of the Elgin High (Ill.) Holiday Tournament.
Malcolm Allen added 30 points for the Bulldogs, who used a 28-19 second-quarter spurt to build a 43-32 halftime lead. Austin Turley supplied eight points and 13 rebounds for Centennial.
Boulder City 58, Valley View (Calif.) 51 — At Menifee, Calif., Kaleb Bailey had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Boulder City used a 17-6 third-quarter run to top Valley View in the opening round of pod play in the Paloma Valley Winter Shootout.
Michael Kelso added 12 points and nine rebounds, and D.J. Koopman scored 11 for Boulder City.
Devin Fleming paced Valley View with 11 points.
Foothill 76, Farrington (Hawaii) 65 — At Honolulu, Elijah Smith poured in 24 points to help the Falcons top the Governors in the opening round of the Merv Lopes Hoops Classic.
Chris Echols added 12 points, and Kyle Andres scored 11 for Foothill.
Jacob McEnroe paced Farrington with 22 points.
Green Valley 63, Sacred Heart Cathedral (Calif.) 62 — At Palm Springs, Calif., Tyler Roberts had 18 points, and Troy Cropper added 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Gators to a win in the opening round of pool play in the Maxpreps Holiday Classic.
Clyde Austin had 14 points for Green Valley.
Xavier Prep (Calif.) 60, Silverado 53 — At Palm Desert, Calif., the Saints outscored the Skyhawks 11-4 in overtime to earn a win in the opening round of pool play in the Maxpreps Holiday Classic.
Godinez (Calif.) 48, Desert Oasis 46 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Brandon Smith pumped in 20 points, and the Grizzlies nipped the Diamondbacks in overtime in the opening round of pool play in the Maxpreps Holiday Classic.
Juliano Rosario had 10 points for Desert Oasis.
