Nine area basketball players nominated for McDonald’s All-American honors

Nine area senior basketball players were named McDonald’s All-American nominees Friday.

The boys list includes Findlay Prep guard Avery Bradley (committed to Texas), Findlay Prep guard D.J. Richardson (Illinois), Cheyenne guard Elijah Johnson (Kansas), Eldorado guard Mitrell Clark (uncommitted) and Western center Melvin Washington (uncommitted).

The girls list includes Bishop Gorman post player Dannielle Diamant (Northwestern), Durango guard Mia Bell (UNLV), Centennial wing Johnna Brown (Dixie State) and Boulder City forward Caiti Forrester (Colorado State-Pueblo).

Seven boys and six girls from Nevada were nominated overall.

The final rosters will be unveiled Feb. 19 on ESPNU. The games will be played April 1 in Miami.

‘Four best teams’ vying for 5A boys basketball state title

The top four Class 5A boys basketball teams — Coronado, Liberty, Bishop Gorman and Arbor View — will play for the state title Thursday and Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
