RECRUITING: Sir Washington picks Eastern Washington

Sir Washington already had an idea he wanted to commit to play college basketball at Eastern Washington.

Clark’s senior shooting guard had no doubt after taking an official recruiting visit to the Cheney, Wash., campus last weekend.

“It wasn’t a tough decision,” Washington said. “I was leaning to it because I really liked the school, then when I went to visit, I started to love it.”

Washington picked the Eagles over a scholarship offer from Northern Arizona.

“The visit was great,” said Washington, who was able to take in the Eastern Washington football team’s 32-26 victory over Montana. “They graduate 95 percent of their students. I love their campus, I love how their basketball team is, and I just wanted to commit there. It’s a great school.”

Washington was an All-Sunset Region pick as a junior, and the 6-foot-3-inch scorer continued to progress this summer while playing for the Las Vegas Prospects.

Washington averaged 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season, helping a revamped Clark program reach the Sunset Region playoffs for the first time since 2006.

He figures to play an even bigger role as a senior.

“I know his feeling is, he wants to go out as a winner,” Clark coach Chad Beeten said before Washington’s visit. “As far as our goals for him, it’s to continue to progress as he has been progressing. He’s a pure scorer. He’s going to score in different ways.”

Washington is excited to cut his own path toward college basketball after watching his cousin, 2012 Clark graduate Kentrell Washington, sign with Hofstra.

“I’m always on the phone with him. He’s always working out and working hard,” Sir Washington said. “It makes me motivate myself to work hard.”
