ROUNDUP: Bennett, Durango boys steal away to last-minute victory
Kris Bennett’s steal with 27 seconds remaining led to the go-ahead free throw by Chrishawn Hopkins as Durango defeated visiting Desert Oasis 45-42 in boys basketball Tuesday.
Hopkins made 1 of 2 free throws to break a 42-all tie, and Marcus Falley’s steal and layup for the Trailblazers at the buzzer provided the final margin.
Bennett also had 14 rebounds, and Falley and Devonte Williams had 12 points each for Durango.
Cameron Mich’l led Desert Oasis with 18 points.
Eldorado 73, Rancho 69 — At Rancho, Ariel Baggett scored 19 points, and the Sundevils rallied from a 55-52 third-quarter deficit to nip the Rams.
Marcus Moreland added 18 points for Eldorado. Mitrell Clark had 17, including two fourth-quarter 3-pointers, Charles White scored 15
James Cammack led Rancho with 23 points and Adam Johnson had 11. Fabian Dominguez and Tyler Gaston (16 rebounds) scored 10 apiece.
Las Vegas 68, Valley 63 — At Valley, the Wildcats scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to erase the Vikings’ 56-47 lead and then held on.
Aahmad Franklin had 18 points to lead Las Vegas. Tyree Anderson added 13 for the Wildcats, who won despite 28 turnovers.
Valley’s Johnquez Brooks led all scorers with 27 points.
Bonanza 51, Clark 37 — At Clark, the Bengals overcame Clark’s 21-11 burst in the second quarter by outscoring the Chargers 32-14 in the second half.
Dasean Martin scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the second half for Bonanza, and Arin Matt added 10 points.
Isidro Garcia had 13 points and Steven Dancy 12 for Clark.
Desert Pines 73, Chaparral 52 — At Chaparral, Pierre Jackson scored 13 of his 19 points during the Jaguars’ decisive 29-11 spurt in the second quarter.
Tyler Larson and Cliff Harrell each added 16 points for Desert Pines. Jermal Turner led Chaparral with nine.
Bishop Gorman 82, Pahrump Valley 52 — At Pahrump, Shabazz Muhammad scored 17 points to help the Gaels beat the Trojans.
John Loyd supplied 12 points and seven assists for Gorman, which led 45-28 at halftime. Kylel Coleman added 14 points, Anson Winder 12 and Alex Turner 10 rebounds.
Marvin Weekly scored 17 points for Pahrump.
Sierra Vista 81, Spring Valley 64 — At Sierra Vista, Quinten Chow, Ray Tapusoa and Amir Garrett combined for 63 points as the Mountain Lions beat the Grizzlies.
Chow scored 23 to top Sierra Vista, which led by as much as 20. Tapusoa added 22 and Garrett 18. Dallin Molina chipped in with 11.
Justin Omogun led Spring Valley with 19 points, and Jesse Chippoletti and Tyler Lewis had 14 each.
Canyon Springs 80, Western 61 — At Western, the Pioneers beat the Warriors behind 15 points each by Michael Thompson and Antonio Snow.
Adrian Snow added 10 points for Canyon Springs, which outscored Western 23-11 in the third quarter to pull away.
Brad Cairo led Western with 12 points, and Melvin Washington and Ehbert Talice contributed 10 apiece.
Mountain View 63, Calvary Chapel 60 — At Calvary Chapel, Justyn Anderson scored 15 points and the Saints held on to beat the Lions.
Raymond Velarde added 14 points and Cortland LeBoeuf 12 for Mountain View.
Dario Rahming scored 16 for Calvary Chapel. His 3-point attempt fell short as time expired.
The Meadows 72, Agassi Prep 63 — At Agassi Prep, Austin Brown poured in 34 points, and the Mustangs pulled away late to down the Stars.
Garrett Gosse added 17 points for the Mustangs.
Tay Shepherd led the Stars with 26 points. Quincy Brown added 22 points and nine rebounds.
Needles 71, Boulder City 55 — At Needles, Stevie Kidd compiled 21 points, eight assists and four steals to carry the Mustangs past the Eagles.
Michael Hills added 13 points and Aaron Burns 12 for Needles.
Joey Western scored 13 and Chris Leach 12 for Boulder City.
Moapa Valley 84, Adelson School 16 — At Overton, Max Jenkins and Shaun Hilton combined for 17 points in the first four minutes as the Pirates bolted to a 34-3 first-quarter lead.
Hayden Cooper led Moapa Valley with 14 points. Jenkins and Matt Vallet each had 13 and Hilton 10.
Gil Reginano led Adelson with nine points.
