ROUNDUP: Boyd, Johnson buoy Basic boys in tournament title win

Devonte Boyd and Antraye Johnson led five double-figure scorers with 14 points apiece Saturday to help Basic’s boys basketball team defeat host Virgin Valley, 68-58 in the championship game of the Bulldog Invitational Tournament in Mesquite.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Andrew Lopez added 12 points for the Wolves. Isaiah Villaros and Ryan Diggs each scored 10 points for Basic.

Tyson Teerlink led the Bulldogs with 22 points. Garrett Leavitt had 21 points, and Dee Bowler scored 12 for Virgin Valley.

Boyd, Teerlink, Cimarron’s Austin Garrison, Desert Oasis’ Jay Esguerra were among those named to the all-tournament team.

Basic 82, Cimarron-Memorial 66 — At Mesquite, Lopez tallied 24 points to help the Wolves advance to the title game of the Bulldog Invitational.

Boyd added 20 points for Basic, which outscored the Spartans 45-25 in the middle two quarters.

Garrison had 22 points for Cimarron.

Virgin Valley 61, Desert Oasis 48 — At Mesquite, Bowler racked up 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists to help the Bulldogs reach the final of their tournament.

Teerlink added 15 points, and Leavitt scored 12 for Virgin Valley, which got 10 points from Dillon Graves.

Latrell Freeman led Desert Oasis with 12 points.

Cimarron-Memorial 82, Desert Oasis 59 — Garrison had 20 points, and the Spartans raced to a 52-23 halftime lead on their way to a win over the Diamondbacks in the third-place game of the Bulldog Invitational.

Cody Newton added 12 points, and J.C. Broussard scored 11 for Cimarron.

Dustin Schwartz had 12 points, and Freeman tallied 10 points for Desert Oasis.

Lowry 60, Moapa Valley 30 — At Mesquite, Joshua Shaver tallied 11 points, and the Buckaroos went on a 20-3 third-quarter run to top the Pirates in the Bulldog Invitational.
Jesse Studebaker added 10 points for Lowry.
Landon Willard and Jackson Mortensen each had 10 points for Moapa Valley.

Enterprise (Utah) 63, Western 61 — At Mesquite, Justin Prisbrey pumped in 38 points as the Wolves nipped the Warriors in the Bulldog Invitational.

Travis Dunn had 19 points, and Aldo Arpero scored 18 for Western, which got 16 points from Darion Murray.

Moapa Valley 51, Western 44 — At Mesquite, Mortensen led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Pirates topped the Warriors in the Bulldog Invitational.

Willard added 11 points for Moapa Valley.

Keon Lea paced Western with 16 points, and Dunn scored 13.

Valley 69, Cherry Creek (Colo.) 61 — At Valley, Eric Burrell had 15 points and 12 rebounds to help the Vikings down Cherry Creek.

Ryan Johnson had 18 points, and Cameron Burton scored 16 for Valley, which got 13 rebounds from Daniel Young.

Sam Stoveall had 23 points, and Graham Pingree scored 17 for Cherry Creek.

Foothill 73, South Sevier (Utah) 59 — At Orem, Utah, Austin Starr poured in 27 points, and Elijah Smith added 15 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and four assists as the Falcons topped the Rams in the Great Western Shootout.

Brannon Cresanto added 13 points, and Chris Echols had 11 points and eight rebounds for Foothill, which grabbed a 45-29 halftime lead.

Race Parsons led South Sevier with 24 points.
 

Vista Grande (Ariz.) 64, Arbor View 62 — At Yuma, Ariz., the Spartans completed a fourth-quarter comeback with a 3-pointer with two seconds to play and downed the Aggies in the title game of the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Charles Porter had 16 points and seven rebounds for Arbor View, which fired a pass the length of the floor before having a shot blocked at the buzzer.

Navonte Hill had 14 points, seven assists and three steals for the Aggies, who took a 44-39 lead into the fourth quarter. Brandon Hill had 14 points, and Justin Burks scored 10 for Arbor View.

Yuma (Ariz.) 81, Mountain View 76 — At Yuma, Ariz., Brian Dixon poured in 37 points, and the Criminals overcame a 59-52 deficit after three quarters to down the Saints in overtime in the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Octavio Rios added 20 points for Yuma, which tied the game on Jason Pullen’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation.

Matt Larson had 20 points, and Connor LeBoeuf scored 18 for Mountain View.

Lake Mead 61, Pahrump Valley 33 — At Pahrump, Justin Yamzon poured in 31 points to help the Eagles top the Trojans.

Caleb Pitman added 10 points for Lake Mead.

Jesse Crain paced Pahrump with seven points.

P.A. Owens Academy 72, Trinity 36 — At Trinity, the Soaring Eagles had four double-figure scorers and grabbed a 38-14 halftime lead en route to a win over the Thunder.

Milos Babic led Trinity with 24 points.
