ROUNDUP: Brown, Centennial girls power way to win in Tournament of Champions

Jada Brown had 32 points and 14 rebounds Saturday to help Centennial’s girls basketball team rally for an 85-64 win over Ossining (N.Y.) in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Tamera Williams had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who trailed 40-33 at the half, but used a 29-7 fourth-quarter run to close out the victory.

Breanna Workman supplied 12 points and 15 rebounds for Centennial.

Moapa Valley 38, Virgin Valley 32 — At Overton, Shelbie Gray and Kimberly Lewis paced a balanced effort with eight points apiece as the Pirates held off the Bulldogs.

Moapa Valley grabbed a 16-9 halftime lead and withstood a late rally by Virgin Valley.

Abbie Barnard led Virgin Valley with 15 points, all in the second half.

The Meadows 40, Laughlin 24 — At Laughlin, Delaney Gosse and Melaney Mayes each had seven points to lead a balanced attack as the Mustangs topped the Cougars.

Anjali Daulat and Casey Barber each added six points for The Meadows, which used a 17-5 third-quarter run to pull away.

Cassie Beggs paced Laughlin with seven points.

Needles 46, Lake Mead 39 — At Lake Mead, Kayla Hills and Lisa Hills each scored 14 points to help the Mustangs top the Eagles.

Taylor Badua-Kono led Lake Mead with 16 points. Taylor Vetter grabbed 16 rebounds, and Shannon Regan had 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

BOYS

Tyson Teerlink drained a 3-pointer from the right corner at the buzzer to lift Virgin Valley to a 45-42 win at Moapa Valley.
Teerlink finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs, who used a 13-3 third-quarter run to overcome a 23-19 halftime deficit.
Lance Hilton had 13 points, and Jackson Mortensen scored 11 for the Pirates.

Lake Mead 63, Needles 44 — At Lake Mead, Justin Yamzon scored 26 points, and the Eagles raced to a 38-13 halftime lead and downed the Mustangs.

Caleb Pitman added 14 points, and Brendan LeBaron had 10 points for Lake Mead.

Phillip Chavez led Needles with 14 points.

The Meadows 61, Laughlin 26 — At Laughlin, Adam Abdelaziz tallied 19 points, and the Mustangs grabbed a 17-4 first-quarter lead on their way to a rout of the Cougars.

Matt Biafore added 13 points for The Meadows.

David Rain paced Laughlin with eight points.

‘Four best teams’ vying for 5A boys basketball state title

The top four Class 5A boys basketball teams — Coronado, Liberty, Bishop Gorman and Arbor View — will play for the state title Thursday and Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
