ROUNDUP: Johnson, Burton pace Valley boys to season-opening win

Ryan Johnson and Cameron Burton each had 18 points Monday as Valley’s boys basketball team opened its season with an 81-71 home win over Cheyenne.

Daniel Young added 15 points, and Spencer Mathis scored 12 points for the Vikings, who led 63-43 after three quarters. Eric Burrell had 10 points for Valley.

Jas Coulson and Edward Shaw each had 18 points to pace the Desert Shields.

Clark 78, Cimarron-Memorial 57 — At Cimarron, Sir Washington scored 24 points, and Diontae Jones had 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Chargers over the Spartans.

Sherron Wilson had 13 points, and Malcolm Davis added 10 points for Clark.

Amani Gill had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Cimarron.

Bonanza 61, Western 54 — At Western, Rio Justice-Chandler scored 15 of his 24 points in the first half to help the Bengals fend off the Warriors.

Travis Noone added 13 points for Bonanza, which outscored Western 19-11 in the fourth quarter.

Travis Dunn had 14 of his 26 points in the third quarter for Western, which battled back from a 29-21 halftime deficit to lead 43-42 entering the fourth. Steven Glad scored 10 for the Warriors.

Mojave 64, Tech 48 —
At Mojave, Marcus Hines had 20 points, and Malik Abbott scored 19 to lead the Rattlers over the Roadrunners.

Josh West scored 12 points for Tech.
