ROUNDUP: Late surge lifts Green Valley past Bishop Gorman in boys basketball

The Green Valley boys basketball team used a 28-17 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to rally for a 78-76 win at Bishop Gorman on Thursday night.

Gorman, which led the entire game until the final three minutes, missed an attempt at a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired.

Julian Franklin scored 19 points to lead Green Valley, which overcame 13-for-26 shooting from the foul line.

Demetrius Pittman and Austin Tebbs added 14 points apiece for Green Valley, and David Franklin chipped in 10.

John Loyd scored a game-high 22 to pace the Gaels, who led 59-50 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Anson Winder had 16 points for Gorman. Czar Robotham and Kylel Coleman each scored 11 for the Gaels.

Eldorado 83, Sierra Vista 75 — At Sierra Vista, Mitrell Clark hit seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 31 points to lead the Sundevils over the Mountain Lions.

Clark hit six 3-pointers in the first half as the Sundevils took a 44-34 halftime lead. Sierra Vista cut its deficit to one point with two minutes to play, but Clark hit eight late free throws to seal the win.

Ray Tapusoa had 27 points and Amir Garret 25 to lead Sierra Vista.

Clark 70, Rancho 59 — At Clark, Steven Dancy and Isidro Garcia each scored 25 points to power the Chargers past the Rams.

Clark outscored Rancho 22-7 in the fourth quarter.

Perry Benson scored 22 points and Byron Bynum 17 to lead the Rams.

Las Vegas 71, Spring Valley 63 — At Spring Valley, Tony Eackles had 25 points to lead three Wildcats in double-figure scoring.

George Sanico added 16 points and Demetrius Johnson 12 for Las Vegas, which outscored Spring Valley 26-14 in the fourth quarter. Eackles was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Jesse Chippoletti led Spring Valley with 20 points. Corey Clement had 19 points and Esteban Gonzales 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies.

Mojave 57, Chaparral 42 — At Chaparral, Anthony Marshall scored 15 points as Mojave built a 30-19 halftime lead and downed the Cowboys.

Kevin James added 14 points for the Rattlers.

Chris Goodloe led Chaparral with 12 points, and teammate Trenton Neal scored 11.

Findlay Prep 114, Desert Pines 81 — At Desert Pines, Texas-bound Avery Bradley scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Pilots to the blowout win.

Illinois signee D.J. Richardson scored 18 points, UNLV signee Carlos Lopez added 15, Issiah Grayson had 12 and Willie Hankins 10 for Findlay Prep.

Pierre Jackson led Desert Pines with 32 points, and teammate Reggie Shaw added 16.

Faith Lutheran 70, Churchill County 61 — At Douglas, Chase Saunders scored a game-high 24 points, including 5 of 6 free throws in overtime to lift the Crusaders over Churchill County in double overtime.

Brett Lubbe added 20 points and nine rebounds for Faith Lutheran.

Trinity 53, Adelson School 49 — At Adelson, Budweiser Hawkins scored a game-high 37 points as the Thunder edged the Lions.

Nate Klegseth added 13 points for Trinity.

Adelson’s Gabi Bornstein had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Aaron Lapping added 11 points for the Lions.

PAHRUMP CAGE CLASSIC

Silverado 80, Pahrump Valley 39 — At Pahrump, Wade Collie had 29 points to help the Skyhawks rout the Trojans in the Pahrump Valley Times Trojans Cage Classic.

Ali Sabra added 20 points for Silverado.

Marvin Weekly led Pahrump with 15 points.

Silverado 73, Spring Mountain 26 — At Pahrump, Sabra scored 17 as the Skyhawks downed the Golden Eagles.

Gabe Simmons and Collie each scored 12 for the Skyhawks.

Beatty 60, Horizon Academy 41 — At Pahrump, Joe Serrano had 15 points and Anthony Regalado 13 to lead the Hornets.

Kyle Marchand and Jacob Sumpter each scored 11 points for Beatty.

Fremont (Calif.) American 69, Beatty 42 — At Pahrump, the Hornets fell behind 38-16 at the half and couldn’t recover.

Serrano had 19 points and Regalado 17 for Beatty.

‘Four best teams’ vying for 5A boys basketball state title

The top four Class 5A boys basketball teams — Coronado, Liberty, Bishop Gorman and Arbor View — will play for the state title Thursday and Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
