ROUNDUP: Muhammad’s 31 points not enough as Gorman boys fall to Dwyer

Jacoby Brissett poured in 30 points Saturday night to lead Dwyer (Fla.) past Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team, 72-63, at the City of Palms Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla.
Dwyer used a 20-9 second-quarter run to erase the Gaels’ early 15-9 lead. Gorman tied the game at 54 early in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t sustain the momentum.
Shabazz Muhammad scored 31 points for the Gaels, who committed 27 turnovers and allowed Dwyer to grab 17 offensive rebounds. Rosco Allen added 15 points for Gorman.
Sandy Valley 50, Indian Springs 41 — At Sandy Valley, Brandon Hughes poured in 24 points, and the Sidewinders used a 28-15 run in the middle quarters to take down the Thunderbirds.
Chasen Malden paced Indian Springs with 18 points.
GIRLS
Centennial 56, LACES (Calif.) 42 — At Phoenix, Ashley Klemz piled up 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals as the Bulldogs defeated the Unicorns in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
Klemz made 12 of 13 free throws for the Bulldogs. Jada Brown added 13 points, and Tamera Williams scored 10 for Centennial, which outscored LACES, 23-13 in the fourth quarter to tie up the win.
Taylor Holeman paced the Unicorns with 18 points.
Mater Dei (Calif.) 65, Bishop Gorman 39 — At Phoenix, Mater Dei extended a seven-point halftime lead to beat the Gaels in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
April Rivers led Gorman with 11 points.
Yucca Valley (Calif.) 55, Cimarron-Memorial 40 — At Riverside, Calif., Yucca Valley pulled away in the second half to defeat the Spartans in the Lady Bears Holiday Classic.
Traci Parks scored 22 points for Cimarron, which trailed 25-22 at the half.
Whitney Rodriguez paced Yucca Valley with 14 points.
Lutheran (Colo.) 36, Faith Lutheran 28 — Kelsey Hizer scored 16 points, and the Lions limited the Crusaders to five field goals en route to the win.
Samantha Leonard led Faith Lutheran with seven points, and teammate Taylor Hammer pulled down six rebounds.
Virgin Valley 57, White Pine 37 — At Mesquite, Rachel Morris scored 16 points, and the Bulldogs broke out to a 31-18 halftime lead on their way to wrapping up third place in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
Madison Bowler added 15 points for Virgin Valley.
Marci Medlyn led the Bobcats with 12 points.
Panguitch (Utah) 47, Virgin Valley 42 — At Mesquite, Panguitch built a 28-18 halftime advantage and held off the Bulldogs in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
Morris had 16 points, and Jenelle Weythman scored 10 for Virgin Valley.
Desert Oasis 58, Pahranagat Valley 43 — At Mesquite, Auburn Smith scored 16 points, and the Diamondbacks used a 36-22 scoring edge in the middle quarters to down the Panthers in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
Sammi Tso scored 15 points, and Ralena Phillips added 14 points for Desert Oasis.
Halie Lewis had 20 points, and Dakota Day scored 11 for Pahranagat Valley.
Desert Oasis 47, Lincoln County 43 — At Mesquite, Tatiana Kearn tallied 17 points, and the Diamondbacks held off a late rally by the Lynx in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
Tso added 10 points for Desert Oasis, which took a 36-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
Melanie Florence scored 14 points, and Tia Florence added 11 points for Lincoln County, which made just 13 of 41 free throws.
Lincoln County 48, Moapa Valley 16 — At Mesquite, Tia Florence tallied 16 points, and the Lynx grabbed leads of 20-9 at the half and 41-12 after three quarters in a rout of the Pirates.
Pahranagat Valley 53, Moapa Valley 38 — At Mesquite, Day poured in 24 points as the Panthers topped the Pirates.
Lewis added 11 points for Pahranagat Valley.
Brianna Harding and Shelby Gray scored eight points apiece for Moapa Valley.
