2018-19 Tech Girls Basketball Capsule

TECH

Head coach: Todd Herrick, first season

2017-18 record: 5-17 (3-9 3A Sunrise/fifth)

Returning letter winners (starters): Seven (three)

Top players: G Tayler Muwwakkil (Sr.), G Claira Eaton (Sr.), C Cassandra Banchich (Sr.), G Makenna Faught (Sr.)

Outlook: Herrick, who was the boys coach at Tech from 2009-14 and served as the girls’ freshmen and junior varsity coach in recent years, takes over the program and hopes to bring success.

Muwwakkil, who did not play last season, averaged 13.7 points per game as a sophomore. Faught (4.4 ppg), Eaton (4.3 ppg) and Banchich (4 ppg) hope to play bigger roles this season.

“The team lacks in size, so we will have to rely on guard play to compete,” Herrick said. “Because the girls and I are very familiar with each other, the transition should be smooth, because they know how I operate and what I expect of them, and they are excited as well.

“We will work hard, play hard, and battle every night, and have fun as well. It is a great group of kids, and I am thankful for the chance to coach them.”
