2A GIRLS: Pershing County forced to rally to claim title

RENO — Sarita Jo Condie scored 33 points to help Pershing County’s girls basketball team rally to top White Pine, 65-60 and claim the Class 2A state championship at UNR’s Lawlor Events Center.

Condie was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter en route to 14 points in the final period to pace Pershing County’s late charge.

The Mustangs (30-1) had defeated White Pine three times during the regular season, but the Bobcats (16-12) took control early and led until the fourth quarter.

White Pine’s Bailey Moore scored in the lane to tie the game at 58 with about a minute to play.

But Condie drove and dished to Grace Moreira, who fired a 3-pointer that hit the front iron and rolled in to give the Mustangs the lead for good.

Moore hit two free throws to pull the Bobcats within a point, but Condie made four free throws in the final 16.8 seconds to seal the win.

Condie finished 14-for-17 from the line, and made her final 12 attempts.

Claudia Dennler added 10 points and six rebounds for Pershing County.

Moore led White Pine with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Maataua Kingston added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Bobcats.
