GIRLS BASKETBALL: Briana Todd powers Virgin Valley to tournament title

Briana Todd poured in 30 points Saturday to lift Virgin Valley’s girls basketball team to a 37-27 win over Panguitch (Utah) in the championship game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational in Mesquite.

The Bulldogs limited the Bobcats to two points in the second quarter and four points in the third to take a 28-15 lead, then held on for the win.

Jordan Bennett paced Panguitch with nine points.

Moapa Valley 61, Mojave 37 — At Mesquite, Matilda Thompson and Kinlee Marshall each had 14 points as the Pirates routed the Rattlers for third place in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Madison Bush and Lainey Cornwall each added eight points for Moapa Valley, which outscored Mojave 20-4 in the third quarter to pull away.

Savannah Blanchard-Davis had 15 points, and Kiara Lemon scored 14 to lead Mojave.

Pahranagat Valley 36, Pahrump Valley 28 — At Mesquite, Allyse Frehner had 12 points as the Panthers defeated the Trojans in the seventh-place game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Koral Hearn had nine points to lead Pahrump.

Virgin Valley 52, Mojave 43 — At Mesquite, Todd had 24 points as the Bulldogs topped the Rattlers in the semifinals of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Emma Barnum added 11 points for Virgin Valley, which led 11-4 after one quarter.

Charleea Armstrong paced Mojave with 17 points.

Panguitch (Utah) 43, Moapa Valley 31 — At Mesquite, Bennett had 13 points to lead the Bobcats over the Pirates in the semifinals of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Thompson led Moapa Valley with 10 points.

Dixie (Utah) 50, Pahranagat Valley 47 — At Mesquite, Kelsea Barker had 16 points to lead the Flyers over the Panthers in the consolation bracket of the Bulldog Invitational.

Bishop Gorman 60, Mount Miguel (Calif.) 38 — At Durango, Skylar Jackson had 10 of her 15 points in the second half to power the Gaels past the Matadors in the Tarkanian Classic.

Quinece Hatcher scored all nine of her points after halftime for Gorman, which outscored Mount Miguel 41-21 in the second half.

Caira Young added 13 points for the Gaels.

Satera Bates led the Matadors with 20 points.

Desert Pines 44, Western 39 — At Durango, See’Airra Evans-Collins had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Jaguars defeated the Warriors in the Tarkanian Classic.

Mount Miguel (Calif.) 54, Coronado 50 — At Durango, Satera Bates scored 26 points as the Matadors defeated the Cougars in the Tarkanian Classic.

Camara Douglas added 18 points for Mount Miguel, which led 34-24 at the half.

Payton Caci led Coronado with 18 points and nine rebounds. Haley Tyrell added 12 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Cougars.

Boyd County (Ky.) 60, Coronado 53 — At Durango, Savannah Wheeler had 18 points to lead the Lions over the Cougars in the Tarkanian Classic.

Alexis Lunsford added 13 points, and Payton Shears scored 12 for Boyd County.

Tyrell had 18 points, five rebounds and six assists to pace Coronado. Caci added 15 points for the Cougars.

Rex Putnam (Ore.) 51, Green Valley 22 — At Durango, the Kingsmen rolled past the Gators in the Tarkanian Classic.

Jamaica Lewis, Temerity Bauer and Quii Harmon each had four points for Green Valley.

Lincoln County 51, The Meadows 16 — At The Meadows, Sadie Soderborg scored 18 points as the Lynx rolled past the Mustangs.

Kristal Jackson added 12 points, and Brynlee Wadsworth scored 10 for Lincoln County.

Marcella Peek had six points and 14 rebounds to lead The Meadows, and Rachel Siegel added six points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
