GIRLS BASKETBALL: Brown helps Patriots rally for win in Nike tournament

Kealy Brown had 14 points, and Liberty’s girls basketball team used a 20-1 third-quarter run Saturday on their way to a 45-36 win over St-Laurent (Canada) in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Paris Strawther added eight points and six rebounds despite being saddled with foul trouble. Aubre Fortner supplied seven points and four steals for Liberty, which trailed 26-15 at halftime.

Bishop Gorman 64, Mater Dei Catholic (Calif.) 51 — At Phoenix, Raychel Stanley scored 22 points, and the Gaels raced to a 24-2 first-quarter lead en route to a win over the Crusaders in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Maddison Washington added 20 points, and Sandria Bolden hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for Gorman.

Kandiss Barber and Jordan Brasfield each had 13 points to lead Mater Dei Catholic.

Westview (Calif.) 71, Centennial 66 — At Phoenix, Westview outscored the Bulldogs 13-8 in overtime to earn a victory in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Teirra Hicks had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Tramina Jordan added 17 points for Centennial, which rallied from a 35-29 halftime deficit to force the extra period. Karina Brandon scored 11 for the Bulldogs.

Pueblo West (Colo.) 70, Green Valley 56 — At Phoenix, Pueblo West used a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to down the Gators in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Maggie Manwarren had 17 points, and Rianna Rudolph scored 10 for Green Valley.

Panguitch (Utah) 71, Valley 41 — At Mesquite, tournament MVP Darri Frandsen poured in 30 points to help the Bobcats top the Vikings in the championship game of the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Taylor Bennett added 23 points, and Whittni Orton scored 12 for Panguitch, which led only 27-20 at the half.

Gabrielle Cabanero had 16 points for Valley.

Panguitch’s Chesney Campbell and Valley’s Cabanero and Alaihya Williams were named to the all-tournament team along with Dixie (Utah)’s Liz Empey and Pahranagat Valley’s Bailee Hosier.

Dixie (Utah) 45, Virgin Valley 18 — At Mesquite, Empey had 15 points, and the Flyers used a 28-6 run in the middle quarters to down the Bulldogs in the third-place game of the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Abbie Barnard had 10 points for Virgin Valley.

Valley 50, Dixie (Utah) 33 — At Mesquite, Cabanero made five 3-pointers and had 15 points to help the Vikings down the Flyers in a semifinal game in the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Kennedy Wharton had 16 points, and Zhani Thomas scored 11 for Valley, which led 18-6 after one quarter.

Abbey Yardley led Dixie with 11 points.

Panguitch (Utah) 83, Virgin Valley 40 — At Mesquite, Campbell had 22 points as the Bobcats ran away from the Bulldogs in a semifinal game in the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Frandsen and Bennett each added 19 points for Panguitch, which led 40-26 at the half.

Barnard had 17 points, and Becca Bramlage scored 10 for Virgin Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 59, Desert Oasis 48 — At Mesquite, Hosier poured in 23 points to lead the Panthers by the Diamondbacks in the fifth-place game of the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Kimberly Lewis added 12 points for Pahranagat Valley, which used a 19-6 second-quarter run to take a 28-17 halftime lead.

Thessa Fernando had 22 points, and Ashlynn Sharp scored 14 for Desert Oasis.

Moapa Valley 41, Spring Valley 39 — At Mesquite, Makayla Jackson had 15 points, and the Pirates outlasted the Grizzlies in overtime in the seventh-place game of the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Kyla Shumway added 14 points for Moapa Valley.

Karina Herrera led Spring Valley with 10 points.

Pahranagat Valley 68, Spring Valley 42 — At Mesquite, Hosier had 21 points to help the Panthers run away from the Grizzlies in the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Lewis added 19 points, and Traci Strong scored 10 for Pahranagat Valley.

Shania Davis led Spring Valley with 18 points.

Desert Oasis 53, Moapa Valley 31 — At Mesquite, Mikala Kirby hit seven 3-pointers and had 29 points as the Diamondbacks downed the Pirates in the Lady Bulldogs Invitational.

Brianna Battisti grabbed 10 rebounds for Desert Oasis.

Makendie Frei led Moapa Valley with nine points.
