GIRLS BASKETBALL: Centennial’s Weitz gets 500th win

Tramina Jordan tallied 16 points Tuesday, and Centennial’s girls basketball team gave head coach Karen Weitz her 500th career win with a 65-21 victory over visiting Palo Verde.

According to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s record book, Weitz joins former Elko and Carlin coach Lynette Davis (1972 to 2003) as the only girls basketball coaches in state history to reach the milestone. Davis won 563 career games.

Teirra Hicks added 13 points for the Bulldogs, who led 33-6 at the half.

Brooklyn Cruz had 10 points for Palo Verde.

Legacy 43, Cheyenne 32 — At Legacy, Carolina Rahkonen scored 19 points to help the Longhorns beat the Desert Shields.

Olivia Armstrong had nine points and nine rebounds to help Legacy.

Bria Buchanan led Cheyenne with 15 points.

Foothill 76, Las Vegas 35 — At Foothill, Taylor Turney scored 19 points, and the Falcons busted out to a 43-11 halftime lead on their way to a win over the Wildcats.

Kelsey McFarland added 14 points, and Mikayla Yeakel scored 10 for Foothill.

Shaleea Butler had 19 points for Las Vegas.

Eldorado 71, Sierra Vista 28 — At Eldorado, DeNisheun Jackson had 29 points and 13 rebounds to help the Sundevils rout the Mountain Lions.

Deasia Walker added 20 points and eight assists for Eldorado.

Faith Lutheran 51, Virgin Valley 43 — At Mesquite, Haley Vinson had 18 points to help the Crusaders cruise past the Bulldogs.

Dani Tharaldson added 15 points, and Alex Wright scored 11 for Faith Lutheran, which established the tempo early and withstood a late Virgin Valley run.

Becca Bramlage led the Bulldogs with 18 points, and teammate Abbie Barnard scored 13.

Moapa Valley 47, Mountain View 24 — At Overton, Makayla Jackson scored 14 points as the Pirates downed the Saints.

Makendie Frei contributed 10 points for Moapa Valley, which cruised to a 22-11 halftime lead.

Kiley Murphy led Mountain View with 10 points.

Agassi Prep 58, Indian Springs 22 — At Agassi Prep, Javoulaee Green led all scorers with 14 points as the Stars blew past the Thunderbirds.

Kareema Webb added 10 points for Agassi Prep, which stormed out to a 24-12 halftime lead.

Hannah Thormahlen scored nine points for Indian Springs.

Laughlin 53, Lee Williams (Ariz.) 26 — At Laughlin, Cassie Beggs poured in 18 points, and the Cougars overcame a slow start to down Lee Williams.

Kayla Nelson and Katelyn Skillingstad each added 12 points for Laughlin, which led only 6-3 after the first quarter.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
