GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cheyenne edges Desert Pines, remains atop Sunset League

Ejanae Coopwood had a game-high 17 points, and Cheyenne’s girls basketball team edged host Desert Pines 44-40 on Thursday to maintain its hold on first place in the Class 3A Sunset League.

Marisha Harden added 10 points for the Desert Shields.

The teams were tied 17-17 at halftime and combined to shoot 74 free throws. Cheyenne held on despite going 13-for-41 from the foul line.

Michelle Rhodes led the Jaguars with 12 points.

Arbor View 67, Faith Lutheran 59 — At Faith Lutheran, Kalli Hosier scored 22 points, and Autumn Westmoreland added 17 points to lead the Aggies past the Crusaders.

Alaysia Reed scored 14 points, and Hannah Gifford added 10 points for the Aggies, who led 34-24 at halftime and moved into sole possession of third place in the Northwest League.

Bryana Neagle scored 24 points — 12 in the fourth quarter — to lead the Crusaders. Madison Bocobo added 15 points for Faith Lutheran.

Centennial 68, Shadow Ridge 17 — At Shadow Ridge, Justice Ethridge had 13 points as the Bulldogs topped the Mustangs.

Melanie Isbell added 11 points for Centennial, which led 30-5 after one quarter.

Summer Plunkett scored 10 points for Shadow Ridge.

Legacy 47, Cimarron-Memorial 35 — At Cimarron, Taeha Pankey poured in a game-high 26 points to lift the Longhorns over the Spartans.

Tasia Moore had 12 points to lead Cimarron, which trailed 21-6 after the first quarter.

Foothill 62, Green Valley 30 — At Foothill, Rae Burrell scored a game-high 18 points to power the Falcons past the Gators.

Keilani Brown and Trinity Betoney each added 16 points for Foothill, which held a 40-13 halftime advantage.

Jamaica Lewis led Green Valley with nine points.

Coronado 57, Silverado 22 — At Coronado, Haley Tyrell finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead the Cougars past the Skyhawks.

Aeryn Hawkins added 10 points and four steals for Coronado, which led 33-12 at the half.

Kimberlynn Tanner had 11 points to lead the Skyhawks.

Liberty 61, Basic 13 — At Basic, Dre’una Edwards scored 15 points to lead the Patriots to an easy win over the Wolves.

Kaily Kaimikaua had nine points, and teammates London Pavlica and Alexis Tomassi added eight points apiece for Liberty.

Pahrump Valley 43, Sunrise Mountain 25 — At Sunrise Mountain, C’Mone Wray-Ball and Helen Vann each scored eight points to lead the Trojans past the Miners.

Jill Smith added seven points for Pahrump Valley, which outscored Sunrise Mountain 24-11 in the first half.

Trinity Lavoll scored 11 points to lead the Miners.

Mountain View 34, Adelson School 21 — At Mountain View, Taya De’Bouck scored 20 points as the Saints ran past the Lions.

Nia Van Kempen had five points and 14 rebounds, and teammate Jordan Spriggs grabbed 13 rebounds for Mountain View.

Adelson’s Brittany Risko scored 11 points to lead the Lions.

Beaver Dam 33, Water Canyon (Utah) 23 — At Hildale, Utah, Chyanne Dahlberg scored 11 points as the Diamondbacks defeated the Wildcats.

Jailene Hernandez added 10 points for Beaver Dam, which opened the game on a 9-0 run.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
