GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cowboys wear down Jaguars in first-place showdown

Alexis Vanstory scored eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday to spark an 18-9 run as Chaparral's girls basketball team rallied for a 52-44 win over visiting Desert Pines to take sole possession of first place in the Division I-A Sunrise League.

Jade Hazelton added 17 points, and Marcia Hawkins scored 13 for the Cowboys, who trailed 35-34 after three quarters.

Jordan Bailey and Chrystian Myles led Desert Pines with 14 points apiece, and teammate See'Airrah Evans-Collins had 10 points.

Cheyenne 43, Sierra Vista 42 — At Sierra Vista, Koreyl Godbolt scored 12 points, including the go-ahead layup with a minute remaining, as the Desert Shields nipped the Mountain Lions.

Starr Hawkins added nine points for Cheyenne, which used a 21-10 third-quarter run to take control.

Shania Harper led Sierra Vista with 15 points, and Kayla Smith scored nine.

Bishop Gorman 65, Shadow Ridge 18 — At Shadow Ridge, Skylar Jackson and Aja Phoumiphat each scored 13 points as the Gaels routed the Mustangs.

Madison Washington scored nine points, and teammate Megan Jacobs added eight points for Gorman, which led 35-10 at the half.

Aubree Nish had four points to lead Shadow Ridge.

Legacy 49, Durango 28 — At Durango, TaEha Pankey hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead the Longhorns by the Trailblazers.

Rory Carter added 12 points, and C'Aree Stevenson scored eight for Legacy, which led 22-13 at halftime.

Spring Valley 57, Pahrump Valley 28 — At Spring Valley, Kayla Harris had 17 points and 10 steals to power the Grizzlies by the Trojans.

Essence Booker led all scorers with 18 points for Spring Valley, which led 22-6 after one quarter.

Lauren Ashford paced Pahrump Valley with 10 points.

Virgin Valley 47, Boulder City 32 — At Boulder City, Spencer Green and Bernice Fiso each scored 13 points as the Bulldogs topped the Eagles.

Briana Todd added 10 points for Virgin Valley, which outscored Boulder City 14-4 in the fourth quarter.

Megan Morton scored a game-high 15 points for Boulder City.

Western 61, Mojave 46 — At Mojave, Destiny Gonzalez poured in 23 points to help the Warriors down the Rattlers.

Capricia Pierce added 14 points, and Jennessa Dunton scored 10 for Western.

Kiara Lemon led Mojave with 26 points, and teammate Savannah Blanchard-Davis notched 10 points.

Moapa Valley 42, Sunrise Mountain 22 — At Sunrise Mountain, Summer Evans scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Pirates by the Miners.

Kinlee Marshall added 10 points for Moapa Valley, which led 18-12 at halftime.

Tre'Licia Quinn led Sunrise Mountain with six points.

Faith Lutheran 58, Clark 18 — At Clark, Sam Caruth had 19 points, and the Crusaders opened the game on a 22-0 run en route to the win.

Bryanna Neagle added 15 points for Faith Lutheran, which led 39-8 at the half.

Marieka Dent led the Chargers with seven points.

Tech 42, Del Sol 34 — At Del Sol, Tayler Muwwakkil scored 11 points to lift the Roadrunners over the Dragons.

Melissa Fuller and Jasmine Ramos each added eight points for Tech, which jumped out to a 22-15 halftime lead.

Ana Ozuna scored 11 points to pace Del Sol.

Lincoln County 37, White Pine 36 — At Panaca, Savannah Harr scored 12 points and made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to help the Lynx edge the Bobcats.

Harr also finished with three rebounds, three assists and six steals for Lincoln County, which got eight points and seven rebounds from Kristal Jackson.

Hannah Hafen pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lynx, who trailed 32-28 after three quarters.

Debra Kingston led White Pine with 10 points.

Needles 45, Laughlin 9 — At Needles, Calif., Jayne Antone scored 14 points as the Mustangs downed the Cougars.

Brenna Chavez had 10 points, and Preslee Murch added nine points for Needles, which held Laughlin scoreless in the first and third quarters.

Teresa Chapa led Laughlin with three points.

Adelson School 63, Word of Life 33 — At Adelson School, Hayden Jansen scored a game-high 18 points, and Shoshanna Wexler had 16 points as the Lions downed the Eagles.

Brittany Risko added 11 points for Adelson School, which led 30-21 at halftime.

Arieyanna Banks had 17 points, and Ayanna Banks scored 12 for Word of Life.

Calvary Chapel 43, Mountain View 28 — At Calvary Chapel, Malia Lee scored a game-high 17 points to help the Lions rout the Saints.

Nerel Martin added seven points for Calvary Chapel, which trailed 24-22 after three quarters before outscoring Mountain View 21-4 in the fourth.

Tayah De'Bouck had 12 points for Mountain View.

Agassi Prep 70, Lake Mead 30 — At Agassi Prep, Destiny Rover led three double-figure scorers with 16 points to power the Stars by the Eagles.

Sharmayne Finley added 13 points, and Raylene Thomas scored 12 for Agassi Prep.

Round Mountain 52, Tonopah 39 — At Round Mountain, the Knights topped the Muckers.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
