GIRLS BASKETBALL: Cruz, Silcox lead Panthers over Faith Lutheran

Brooklyn Cruz had 22 points, and Paulina Silcox scored 21 as Palo Verde's girls basketball team defeated visiting Faith Lutheran 73-68 on Saturday.

The Crusaders led 21-17 after one quarter, but the Panthers outscored them 26-11 in the second quarter to take control.

Marcie Goldberg added 11 points for Palo Verde.

Sam Caruth led Faith Lutheran with 24 points. Madison Bocobo added 16 points, and teammate Bryanna Neagle had 13 points for the Crusaders.

Bishop Gorman 61, Vanden (Calif.) 49 — At Stockton, Calif., Raychel Stanley had 16 points as the Gaels rallied for the win in the St. Mary's Showcase.

Skylar Jackson added 15 points, and Madison Washington scored 13 for Gorman. The Gaels trailed 23-15 after one quarter and 36-31 at the half.

Myli martinez and Julia Blackshell-Fair each had 11 points for Vanden.

Serra-Gardena (Calif.) 64, Coronado 18 — At Panorama City, Calif., Alexis Tucker had 13 points and the Cavaliers rolled past the Cougars.

Serra led 17-2 after one quarter and 44-5 at the half.

Haley Tyrell led Coronado with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Meadows 46, Mountain View 37 — At Mountain View, Marcella Peek had 22 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocked shots and scored eight points in overtime as the Mustangs topped the Saints.

The Meadows outscored Mountain View 10-1 in overtime.

Kaiya Massey added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Mustangs, and teammate Talia Steinwald had 11 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Mia Shingles led Mountain View with 12 points.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
