GIRLS BASKETBALL: Desert Shields top Rattlers, clinch playoff spot

Bria Buchanan scored 10 points on Thursday to lead Cheyenne’s girls basketball team to a 36-24 road win over Mojave.

Amanee Buckins added eight points for the Desert Shields, who used a 12-4 second-quarter burst to pull away.

The win gave Cheyenne the Division I-A Sunset League’s fourth and final playoff berth.

Rayena Rael scored nine points to lead Mojave.

Chaparral 44, Virgin Valley 40 — At Chaparral, Marcia Hawkins had 14 points, and the Cowboys took advantage of a 12-1 first-quarter run to stun the Bulldogs.

Rosa Richardson added 13 points for Chaparral.

Bernice Fiso had 12 points for Virgin Valley.

Western 50, Clark 37 — At Western, Destiny Gonzalez scored 23 points as the Warriors upset the Chargers.

Capricia Pierce scored 16 points, and Guadalupe Herrera added 11 points for Western, which outscored Clark 30-16 in the middle quarters.

Bobbi Floyd had 17 points to lead the Chargers, who also got 10 points from Karli Stroughter.

Boulder City 51, Desert Pines 45 — At Boulder City, Whitney Barlow had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and the Eagles erased a 12-point halftime deficit to beat the Jaguars.

Megan Morton added 12 points for Boulder City, which trailed 32-20 at the half.

Chrystian Myles scored 17 points for Desert Pines.

Desert Oasis 65, Cimarron-Memorial 52 — At Cimarron, Mikala Kirby had 16 points, and KePatriot Simpson scored 13 to propel the Diamondbacks over the Spartans.

Ashlynn Sharp added 12 points for Desert Oasis, which also got 10 points each from Londyn Hollsten and Thessa Fernando.

Shauntel Efferson had 12 points, and Shataya Harper scored 11 for Cimarron.

Faith Lutheran 63, Pahrump Valley 26 — At Faith Lutheran, Haley Vinson had 15 points, and Alex Wright 14 to help the Crusaders rout the Trojans.

Dani Tharaldson added 10 points for Faith Lutheran, which led 20-5 after one quarter. The Crusaders clinched the Division I-A Sunset League title with the win and Clark’s loss.

Jillian Smith scored 10 points for Pahrump.

Legacy 52, Bonanza 31 — At Legacy, Carolina Rahkonen had 18 points and seven rebounds to help the Longhorns roll over the Bengals.

Markeshia Evans added nine points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Legacy, which jumped out to a 15-3 lead after one quarter.

Tanganika Hunt led Bonanza with 11 points.

Sunrise Mountain 51, Tech 30 — At Tech, Deanna Manning had 13 points to lead 10 scorers as the Miners downed the Roadrunners.

Brittany Veal added eight points for Sunrise Mountain, which got six points apiece from Jasmyn Rodriguez and Melilini Carter.

Haylee Holsclaw scored seven points to pace Tech.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
