GIRLS BASKETBALL: Dyer, Wildcats edge Mustangs at home

Teconna Dyer hit a tie-breaking free throw with 24 seconds to play, and Bianca Matlock added a layup eight seconds later to lift host Las Vegas High’s girls basketball team to a 53-50 win over Shadow Ridge on Thursday.

Dyer’s free throw broke a 50-50 tie. After Matlock’s layup, the Mustangs had two possessions, but committed a turnover on each.

Matlock finished with 16 points and six assists, and Adrina Collins scored 12 for the Wildcats, who trailed 42-40 entering the fourth quarter. Armonnie Byrd grabbed 11 rebounds for Las Vegas.

Assana King led Shadow Ridge with 14 points, and teammate Amira King scored 13.

Centennial 68, Canyon Springs 49 — At Canyon Springs, Jayden Eggleston led all scorers with 22 points to lift the Bulldogs over the Pioneers.

Justice Ethridge had 15 points, and Pam Wilmore scored 12 for Centennial, which led 47-36 after three quarters. Karina Brandon added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Alexia Thrower led Canyon Springs with 14 points.

Cimarron-Memorial 43, Cheyenne 40 — At Cimarron, Shauntel Efferson had 17 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, and the Spartans rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to beat the Desert Shields.

Ashli Tyus finished with nine points, eight assists and four steals for Cimarron. Tyus went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 20 seconds to seal the win for the Spartans, who were 11-for-18 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Zaquae Downton had nine points and 15 rebounds for Cimarron.

Kaylan Finley led Cheyenne with 11 points.

Palo Verde 74, Valley 42 — At Valley, Alaysia Reed poured in 18 points, and Paulina Silcox had 16 points as the Panthers routed the Vikings.

Alyssa Siqueiros added nine points for Palo Verde, which jumped out to a 40-14 halftime lead.

Hannah Geberyesus scored 11 points, and Jezuel Pollins supplied 10 points, six steals, five rebounds and five assists for Valley.

Basic 40, Legacy 34 — At Legacy, Dana Deloney dropped in 18 points, and the Wolves used a 14-8 fourth-quarter run to down the Longhorns.

Jayla Brown scored 14 points for Basic, which got the benefit of 16 missed free throws by Legacy. The game was tied 26-26 after three quarters.

C’Aree Stevenson led Legacy with seven points, and teammate Dar’Juanah Harris added six points.

Durango 57, Silverado 40 — At Silverado, Brittany Romo poured in 24 points, and Jazmin Chavez had 17 points to power the Trailblazers past the Skyhawks.

Aylin Ponce added seven points for Durango, which used a 21-5 third-quarter spurt to pull away.

Deja Siaki scored 17 points to lead Silverado, which also got 10 points from Ja’Neal Coleman.

Maryknoll (Hawaii) 49, Foothill 48 — At Bishop Gorman, Rhianne Omori hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 1:26 to play, and the Spartans held on to nip the Falcons in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Omori’s free throws gave Maryknoll a 49-48 lead. Foothill missed three free throws and two field-goal attempts in the final 1:17 of the game.

Kaile Cambra led the Spartans with 10 points.

Trinity Betoney paced Foothill with 16 points.

Bishop Gorman 67, Lee (Texas) 41 — At Bishop Gorman, Madison Washington scored 16 points, and the Gaels built a 33-14 halftime lead on their way to a win over the Rebels in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Alaysia Robinson added 15 points, and Skylar Jackson scored 14 for Gorman, which also got 12 points from Megan Jacobs.

Hannah Payne led Lee with 12 points.

Quest Academy 47, American Fork (Utah) 43 — At Bishop Gorman, Brianna Osorio scored 21 points, and the Knights used a 16-6 third-quarter run to turn back the Cavemen in the Las Vegas Invitational.

McKena Arlt added 13 points, and Jenise McKnight scored 10 for Quest.

Paige Farnsworth had 15 points for American Fork, which missed four free-throw attempts in the final 90 seconds.

Desert Oasis 56, Greyhills Academy (Ariz.) 27 — At Flagstaff, Ariz., Mikala Kirby poured in 23 points to power the Diamondbacks past the Fightin’ Knights in the Pepsi Holiday Tournament.

Ashlynn Sharp scored nine points for Desert Oasis, which led 30-15 at halftime.

Desert Pines 43, Mojave 35 — At Desert Pines, Jordan Bailey scored 14 points to lead the Jaguars past the Rattlers.

Chrystian Myles added 10 points for Desert Pines. Adrianne Jackson led the Jaguars with 13 rebounds, while teammate See’Airrah Evans-Collins pulled down 11 rebounds.

RayEna Rael scored 12 points to lead Mojave.

Virgin Valley 50, Moapa Valley 44 — At Mesquite, Spencer Green had 14 points, and Emma Barnum scored 13 to lead the Bulldogs past the Pirates.

Kourtney Metzger added 10 blocks for Virgin Valley.

Emily Mills led Moapa Valley with 12 points, while teammate Makayla Jackson added 11 points.

Chaparral 55, Eldorado 32 — At Eldorado, Taij Criss-Felton finished with 22 points, and the Cowboys routed the Sundevils.

Marcia Hawkins added 14 points, and teammate Jade Hazelton scored 10 for Chaparral, which led 19-5 after the first quarter.

Deasia Walker led Eldorado with 12 points.

Mountain View 50, Adelson School 11 — At Mountain View, Rose Adkins had 18 points as the Saints defeated the Lions.

Tayah De’Bouck added 12 points for Mountain View.

Smith Valley 50, Round Mountain 21 — At Virginia City, the Bulldogs defeated the Knights at the Comstock Classic.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
