GIRLS BASKETBALL: Quick start helps Liberty stun top-ranked Gorman

Liberty’s girls basketball team opened the game on a 10-1 run and never looked back on the way to a 45-35 win over top-ranked Bishop Gorman at South Point Arena on Saturday.

Liberty was 17-for-57 (29.2 percent) from the field, but got 12 second-chance points. Kealy Brown led the Patriots with 11 points. Her fast-break basket with 2:33 to go in the third quarter gave the Patriots their biggest lead at 33-16.

Gorman answered with a 7-0 run, capped by a Megan Jacobs 3-pointer from the top of the key with 35 seconds to go in the third quarter that cut the lead to 33-23.

But that was as close as the Gaels got until Jacobs hit another 3-pointer with 11 seconds to go to cut the lead to 44-35.
