GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sanchez’s last-second free throw gives Basic victory over Palo Verde

Amanda Sanchez hit 1 of 2 free throws with one second left Thursday to help Basic’s girls basketball team to a 53-52 win over visiting Palo Verde.

With the score tied at 52-52, the Panthers dribbled about a minute off the clock before missing a shot with 10 seconds remaining. Basic got the rebound, and Sanchez was fouled at the other end.

Jayla Brown had 33 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Wolves, who also got 11 points from Happy Butler.

Nallah Thomas-McDade had 17 points, and Paulina Silcox and Brooklyn Cruz each scored 16 for Palo Verde.

Pahrump Valley 36, Del Sol 30 — At Pahrump, Shayla Dance had 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Trojans rallied past the Dragons.

Jillian Smith added 10 points and nine rebounds for Pahrump, which trailed 27-23 entering the fourth quarter.

Astrid Rodriguez had 13 points, and Sayanna Roy scored 10 for Del Sol.

Green Valley 50, Poston Butte (Ariz.) 39 — At Phoenix, Rianna Rudolph notched 15 points to lift the Gators over the Broncos in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Brooke Haney recorded eight points and six rebounds for Green Valley, which jumped out to a 30-12 halftime lead.

Ellee Barton contributed six steals and five rebounds for the Gators.

Western 62, Spring Valley 48 — At Spring Valley, Guadalupe Herrera had 16 points, and Destiny Gonzalez scored 15 as the Warriors downed the Grizzlies.

Capricia Pierce scored 11, and Rela Coleman had 10 points for Western.

Jessica Rafay had 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Shania Davis added 12 points for Spring Valley.

Coronado 60, Silverado 30 — At Coronado, Samantha Green scored 14 points to guide the Cougars to an easy win over the Skyhawks.

Skylar Feldman had 12 points, and Karlie Thorn added 11 points for Coronado.

Deja Siaki led Silverado with 10 points.

Legacy 56, Las Vegas 16 — At Legacy, Charleea Armstrong had 16 points, eight rebounds and eight steals to lead the Longhorns in a rout of the Wildcats.

Sabrina Evans had 13 points, and Justice Akins scored 12 for the Longhorns, who got 15 rebounds from Markeshia Evans.

Shaleea Butler led Las Vegas with six points.

Rancho 58, Moapa Valley 21 — At Rancho, LaKissa Martin scored 13 points, and the Rams used a 15-1 second-quarter run to pull away from the Pirates.

Jada Wilson added 10 points for Rancho.

Makendie Frei led Moapa Valley with six points.

Shadow Ridge 51, Tech 22 — At Shadow Ridge, Jaylan Johnson scored 12 points as the Miners cruised past the Roadrunners.

Ciera DaPra added nine points for the Miners.

Christine Sweet had eight points for Tech.

Canyon Springs 60, Cimarron-Memorial 15 — At Cimarron, Alexia Thrower had 14 points to propel the Pioneers past the Spartans.

Deijhan Cooks had 11 points, and Cherise Beynon supplied 10 points for Canyon Springs.

Shataya Harper and Shauntel Efferson each had four points for Cimarron.

Castle View (Colo.) 54, Bishop Gorman 37 — At Phoenix, Kylie Minish had 13 points to help Castle View down the Gaels in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Raychel Stanley had 22 points for Gorman, which led 9-8 after one quarter.

Dobson (Ariz.) 52, Liberty 35 — At Phoenix, Tori Lloyd had 23 points to lead Dobson by the Patriots in the Nike Tourament of Champions.

Miyah Leith added 18 points for Dobson.

Paris Strawther and Jazmin O’Bannon each had 10 points for Liberty.

Sandy Valley 57, Adelson School 26 — At Adelson School, Jacinda Fanscher scored 24 points as the Sidewinders ran away from the Lions.

Holly Rau scored 13 points, and Lauren Cripe scored 10 points for Sandy Valley.

Tamar Tecktiel led the Lions with 13 points.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
