GIRLS BASKETBALL: Thrower helps Pioneers nip Arbor View

Alexia Thrower scored 23 points to help Canyon Springs' girls basketball team to a 52-51 win at Arbor View on Friday.

Dayonna Maddox added 11 points for the Pioneers, who rallied from a 21-11 first-quarter deficit to build a 52-48 lead.

The Aggies' Kalli Hosier hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left, but the Pioneers ran out the clock.

Katrina Nordstrom paced Arbor View with 15 points, and teammates Caroline Rivera-Cervantes and Kera Farmer each added 10 points.

Bishop Gorman 62, Coronado 40 — At Coronado, Madison Washington scored 18 points to lead the Gaels past the Cougars.

Megan Jacobs scored 14 points, and Raychel Stanley poured in 13 points for Gorman, which used a 21-8 second-quarter run to take control.

Coronado's Sayanna Roy scored 17 points, and Payton Caci added 12 points for the Cougars.

Centennial 75, Cedar (Utah) 32 — At Cedar City, Utah, Samantha Thomas had 30 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs in a rout over the Redmen.

Eboni Walker added 11 points for Centennial, which took control of the game with a 16-7 first-quarter run.

Carly Davis and Morgan Myers each scored six points to lead Cedar.

Basic 37, Bonanza 24 — At Basic, Happy Butler scored 13 points to lead the Wolves by the Bengals.

Basic used an 18-6 first-quarter run to take command.

Jazzmon Ferguson led Bonanza with eight points.

Faith Lutheran 61, Carson 33 — At Reno, Sam Caruth scored 18 points as the Crusaders rolled by the Senators in the High Sierra Winter Challenge.

Bryanna Neagle added eight points for Faith Lutheran, which led 26-13 at the half.

Brianna Alvarado led Carson with 15 points.

Reno 74, Green Valley 41 — At Reno, Daranda Hinkey made five 3-pointers and had 17 points to lead the Huskies by the Gators in the High Sierra Winter Challenge.

Mallory McGwire added 14 points, and Dominique Harding scored 13 for Reno.

Brooke Haney led Green Valley with 14 points, and teammate Ellee Barton scored 11.

Spring Valley 56, Clovis East (Calif.) 23 — At Fresno, Calif., Essence Booker scored 20 points to lead the Grizzlies over the Timberwolves in the Nike Central Valley Showdown.

Kayla Harris had 17 points for Spring Valley, which led 16-2 after the first quarter.

North Valleys 48, Western 31 — At Western, Passion Burrell scored 12 points to lead the Panthers past the Warriors.

Destiny Gonzalez scored 11 points to lead the Warriors, who could never recover from a 17-6 North Valleys' run in the second quarter.

Indian Springs 20, Water Canyon (Utah) 7 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Sevanna Morgando scored 14 points to lead the Thunderbirds to the win in the Diamondback Classic.

Beatty 24, Indian Springs 13 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Alexia Gil had eight points to help the Hornets top the Thunderbirds in the Diamondback Classic.

Morgano led Indian Springs with seven points.

Indian Springs 30, Beaver Dam JV 10 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Morgando poured in 12 points, and the Thunderbirds held a 12-0 lead after one quarter on their way to a win over the Diamondbacks' junior varsity in the Diamondback Classic.

Beaver Dam 78, Water Canyon (Utah) 53 — At Littlefield, Ariz., Jacinta Hurt had 17 points to power the Diamondbacks to victory in the Diamondback Classic.

Jailene Hernandez added 16 points, and Karen Yanez scored 14 for Beaver Dam.

Laughlin 37, Mountain View 28 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., the Cougars topped the Saints in the River Valley Invitational.

Needles 50, Laughlin 10 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., the Mustangs routed the Cougars in the River Valley Invitational.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
