GIRLS BASKETBALL: Trailblazers rally in fourth, secure Northwest League’s No. 2 seed

Jazmin Chavez scored eight points, and Brittany Romo added seven points during a fourth-quarter run that lifted Durango’s girls basketball team to a 52-45 home win over Palo Verde on Wednesday.

Romo finished with 20 points, and Chavez had 19 points, eight rebounds, six steals and three assists for Durango, which secured the Northwest League’s No. 2 seed for the Sunset Region playoffs. The Trailblazers outscored the Panthers 21-12 in the fourth quarter.

Paulina Silcox had 26 points for Palo Verde.

Arbor View 54, Shadow Ridge 35 — At Shadow Ridge, Janae Strode had 16 points as the Aggies secured the Northwest League title by topping the Mustangs.

Ariona Gill supplied 13 points for Arbor View.

Jayla Johnson led Shadow Ridge with 10 points.

Foothill 57, Coronado 47 — At Coronado, Taylor Turney scored 14 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Falcons rallied from a 38-37 deficit after three quarters and topped the Cougars.

Grace Green had 18 points, and Skylar Feldman scored 12 for Coronado.

Basic 54, Del Sol 45 — At Del Sol, Dana Deloney had 25 points to lead the Wolves by the Dragons.

Jayla Brown added 18 points for Basic.

Sayanna Roy went 15-for-15 from the free-throw line and finished with 30 points for Del Sol.

Canyon Springs 74, Valley 49 — At Valley, Cherise Beynon had 22 points and Daijhan Cooks scored 20 to help the Pioneers top the Vikings.

Alexia Thrower added 16 points for Canyon Springs, which outscored Valley 48-21 in the middle quarters.

Valley’s Kennedy Wharton was 11-for-12 from the free-throw line and finished with 19 points, five assists and eight steals. Gabrielle Cabanero added 16 points for the Vikings.

Liberty 61, Eldorado 21 — At Liberty, Jamelia Clark had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Patriots routed the Sundevils.

Jazmin O’Bannon had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Kealy Brown added 10 points and 10 steals for Liberty, which got 10 points from Nancy Caballero and 16 rebounds from Paris Strawther.

DeNisheun Jackson had 11 points for Eldorado.

Green Valley 57, Rancho 40 — At Green Valley, Maggie Manwarren had 14 points, five assists and five steals to lift the Gators over the Rams.

Ellee Barton added 10 points and 13 rebounds, and teammate Brooke Haney scored 12 for Green Valley, which used a 25-9 run in the second quarter to take control.

Kanosha Gray scored 18 points for Rancho.

Las Vegas 46, Silverado 27 — At Silverado, Shaleea Butler scored 16 points to guide the Wildcats to victory over the Skyhawks.

The Wildcats used a 14-4 first-quarter run to begin to pull away.

Deja Siaki and Holly Messmer each had eight points for Silverado.

Sierra Vista 74, Spring Valley 48 — At Sierra Vista, Kimayah Love scored 16 points as the Mountain Lions downed the Grizzlies.

Kayla Smith supplied 11 points for Sierra Vista, which got nine points apiece from Juliana Asa, Kelsey Jimenez and Kennedy Nieves.

Shania Davis scored 18 points, and Karina Herrera had 16 points to pace Spring Valley.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
