Silverado’s girls basketball team had already lost consecutive Southeast League games entering Tuesday’s matchup at Green Valley.
On Monday, the Skyhawks lost second-leading scorer Alena Evans, who quit the team due to personal reasons, according to Silverado coach Kelli Mathews.
The Gators didn’t make things any easier as Sarah Pickus, Jazmine Jarvis and Danielle Christenson combined for 64 points to lead Green Valley to a 79-50 victory.
Already leading by 10 after the first quarter, the Gators (17-2, 6-1 Southeast) followed with one of their best quarters of the season.
Christenson hit six field goals in the quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, as Green Valley cruised to a 47-18 advantage at halftime.
“That’s some of the best basketball we’ve played in a long time,” said Green Valley coach Lorenzo Jarvis, whose team outscored Silverado, 28-9, in the second quarter. “It’s always a good feeling when your leaders can step up and deliver. I didn’t like the effort we came out with in the third quarter, but that was because of the big lead. Overall, a solid game tonight.”
In the opening half, Christenson had 16 points, Jarvis added 12 and Pickus scored eight.
Jazmine Jarvis led Green Valley with 26 points. Pickus scored 20 and Christenson 18.
“It’s great when we can return to play solid, fundamental basketball,” the fifth-year Gators coach said. “Again, the second quarter was the key because we played very well and that made the difference tonight.”
Natalie Lainhart led Silverado (13-6, 4-3 Southeast) with 22 points.
