LAS VEGAS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: Aggie girls miss opportunities, fall to Lions

After her team dropped its first game of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic at Centennial, Arbor View coach Donna Gentry was concerned about her team’s effort in its second game.

The effort was there, but the shots didn’t fall — especially in the final three minutes.

Trailing all game, the Aggies had opportunities down the stretch but couldn’t finish in a 42-32 loss to Fairfax (Calif.).

Arbor View (8-4) fought back and pulled to within 34-29 on Dani Chaney’s 3-pointer with 2:30 left.
But Arbor View managed only a Dana Lewis layup the rest of the way.

“We just didn’t make shots,” Gentry said. “We have the chances, we just didn’t execute. Mentally, we’re young. We just didn’t set the pace or the intensity.”

Fairfax scored eight of the game’s first nine points. The Aggies responded with buckets by Amanda Embleton and Janae Strode to close the quarter trailing 14-7.

Arbor View had trouble solving Fairfax’s zone in the second quarter and trailed 18-13 at the half.
