Las Vegas Holiday Classic: Centennial advances to semifinals

Melanie Isbell and Eboni Walker led a balanced attack for Centennial girl’s basketball team with 11 points apiece Thursday as the Bulldogs took down visiting Millennium (Arizona) in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, 59-38.

Ajanhai Phoumiphat scored 10 points for the Bulldogs, who got at least eight points from five players.

Like Wednesday, the Bulldogs were the only local varsity team to pick up a victory. They will play in the semifinals at 12:40 p.m. Friday, with the championship scheduled for 3:20 p.m.

Shyann Heredia’s 14 points paced the Tigers.

Mountain Pointe (Ariz.) 51, Legacy 47 — Taeha Pankey’s game-high 23 points were not enough in the Longhorns’ loss to the Pride.

Rory Carter scored 10 points for Legacy, which had a 21-20 second-half edge in points.

Kayci Johnson and A’laysha Clark shared the Pride’s scoring lead with 14 each.

JV Centennial 55, Palo Verde 46 — Alyssa Maillaro tied for the game’s scoring lead with 19 points, but the Panthers couldn’t top the JV Bulldogs.

Kedrena Johnson scored 12 for the Panthers, who trailed by just two at halftime after an 18-point second quarter.

Demi Black scored 19 for JV Centennial, and Aaliyah Ibarra scored 16.

Beckman (Calif.) 47, Desert Pines 29 — Destiny Weather scored 10 points, but the Jaguars fell to the Patriots.

Katrina Metcalf scored 19 points, helping the Patriots grab a 19-12 halftime lead.

Jacqui Paredes added 14 points for Beckman.

JV Centennial 68, Legacy 41 — Teaha Pankey scored 13 points for the Longhorns, but they fell to the Bulldogs’ JV team.

DaeJah Phillips led JV Centennial with 22 points, Taylor Bigby had 16 points, and Addison Melon scored 15.

Mountain Pointe (Ariz.) 63, Palo Verde 37 — Alyssa Maillaro scored 12 points, but the Panthers could not beat the Pride.

Brea Patterson had a game-high 22 points for the Pride.
