ROUNDUP: Chaparral edges Rancho in girls basketball

Desiree Pierce had a game-high 21 points on Thursday to lead Chaparral’s girls basketball team to a 56-54 home victory over Rancho.

Natriana Shorter added 10 points for the Cowboys, who took a 17-7 lead after one quarter.

Khalia Branch led Rancho with 19 points. Stephanie Thompson scored 10 for the Rams.

Western 48, Spring Valley 28 — At Western, Melanie Russell scored 13 points and Michelle Simon 12 as the Warriors rolled past the Grizzlies.

Western used a 12-0 run to start the game and never looked back. Tracy Parks added 20 rebounds for the Warriors.

Chyna Wimberly led Spring Valley with nine points.

Pahrump Valley 46, Desert Oasis 15 — At Pahrump Valley, the Trojans led 22-0 after the first quarter and cruised to victory over the Diamondbacks.

Alyson Kunzi scored 16 points and Ashley Lindgren 10 for Pahrump.

Valley 56, Canyon Springs 16 — At Valley, the Vikings bolted to a 28-4 halftime lead and never looked back.

Vanessa Corona scored 13 points to lead Valley. Iris Barahona had 11, and Christina Davis and Alisa Zimmerman added 10 apiece for the Vikings. 

Bishop Gorman 80, Clark 14 — At Clark, the Gaels led 20-2 after one quarter and rolled to the win.

Dannielle Diamant had 21 points to lead Gorman, which outscored the Chargers 40-2 in the second half.

Aaryn Ellenberg added 18 points and Yahindra Edwards 15 for the Gaels, who locked up a share of the Southwest League title.

Angelena Cook had nine points for Clark.

Desert Pines 55, Las Vegas 27 — At Las Vegas, Andrea Jefferson scored 24 points to help Desert Pines clinch at least a share of the Northeast League crown.

LaBrea Walker added 15 points and Clarissa Davis 14 for the Jaguars, who never looked back after taking a 14-4 first quarter lead.

Kelli Descheney and Shelby Nelson each scored eight points for the Wildcats.
