ROUNDUP: Payne, Legacy girls top Diamondbacks in overtime

Tori Payne had 17 points and 13 rebounds, including two key rebounds in the final minute of overtime Thursday, to help Legacy’s girls basketball team outlast visiting Desert Oasis, 49-44.

Deja Brown added 11 points for Legacy, which had two starters foul out in the fourth quarter. Legacy led by three with six seconds to go in regulation before fouling the Diamondbacks’ Sammi Tso, who was attempting a 3-point shot.

Tso, who finished with 20 points, sank the three free throws to force overtime. Tatiana Kearn added 14 points for the Diamondbacks.

Chaparral 53, Sunrise Mountain 52 — At Chaparral, Unique Wilson had 19 points and 10 rebounds before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter, and the Cowboys held off the Miners.

Marcia Hawkins added 14 points for Chaparral, which had the ball and a one-point lead, but committed a turnover with 1.8 seconds to go. Sunrise Mountain got off a potential game-winning shot, but missed.

Azia McBrown led Sunrise Mountain with 18 points. Brittany Veal scored 14, and Jenae Yurek-Carhee added 12 points for the Miners.

Centennial 66, Cimarron-Memorial 30 — At Centennial, Breanna Workman scored 17 points as the Bulldogs dominated the Spartans.

Teirra Hicks and Jada Brown each added 13 points for Centennial, which led 36-15 at the half.

Taya Harper and Emily Cox each scored nine for Cimarron.

Bishop Gorman 71, Bonzana 30 — At Gorman, Raychel Stanley scored 26 points, and the Gaels sprinted to a 29-9 first-quarter lead in a rout of the Bengals.

April Rivers and Kaylee Puckett each added 14 points for Gorman.

Tanganika Hunt and Saniah Simpson had nine points apiece for Bonanza.

Western 40, Mojave 30 — At Mojave, Guadalupe Herrera scored 16 points to lead the Warriors over the Rattlers.

Destiny Gonzalez added 11 points for Western.

Rayena Rael led Mojave with 10 points.

Faith Lutheran 54, Cheyenne 30 — At Faith Lutheran, Julia Benko led a balanced attack with 10 points, and the Crusaders raced to leads of 15-1 after one quarter and 30-8 at the half en route to a win over the Desert Shields.

Dani Tharaldson, Taylor Hammer and Sam Leonard each added nine points for Faith Lutheran.

Bria Buchanan and Noni Barree each had eight points for Cheyenne.

Clark 41, Pahrump Valley 18 — At Clark, Bobbi Floyd had 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Chargers rolled past the Trojans.

Cequadva Belsar added seven points and 11 assists for Clark.

Shayla Dance led Pahrump with five points.

Virgin Valley 53, Tech 23 — At Mesquite, Abbie Barnard scored 19 points as the Bulldogs raced by the Roadrunners.

Kourtney Metzger added 14 points, and Becca Bramlage had 10 points for Virgin Valley, which led 36-8 at the half.

Clarissa Szluha led Tech with eight points.

Moapa Valley 48, Desert Pines 35 — At Overton, Shelbie Grey and Kimberly Lewis each scored 11 points, and the Pirates grabbed a 26-11 halftime lead and held off the Jaguars.

Cydney Myles scored 12 points for Desert Pines.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
