ROUNDUP: Rivers, Childress’ free throws help Bishop Gorman girls survive Sharks

April Rivers and Tonishia Childress combined to make three free throws in the final minute Thursday to help Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team to a 47-45 win over Santiago (Calif.) in the Division G quarterfinals of the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Rivers had 20 points for the Gaels, who trailed 35-32 entering the fourth quarter. Raychel Stanley added 10 points for Gorman.

Shaina Carrington had 16 points, and Monique Billings scored 12 for the Sharks, ranked No. 30 nationally by MaxPreps.

Moapa Valley 43, Chaparral 42 —
At Overton, DaniElle Russo sank two free throws with eight seconds remaining in the game to help the Pirates hand the Cowboys their first loss of the season.

Russo’s free throws expanded the Pirates’ lead to 43-40. Chaparral’s Alejandra Macias hit a layup in the final second.

Kimberly Lewis had 15 points, and Shelbie Gray scored 10 for Moapa Valley.

Macias led the Cowboys with eight points.

Desert Oasis 61, Bonanza 25 — At Bonanza, Ayla Rollins scored 16 points to lead the Diamondbacks in a rout of the Bengals.

Jaqueline Garcia added 10 points for Desert Oasis, which raced to a 34-15 halftime lead.

Alyssa Powers led the Bengals with nine points.

Riverdale Baptist (Md.) 60, Centennial 47 — At Phoenix, the Crusaders raced to a 17-2 first-quarter lead and downed the Bulldogs in the Division E quarterfinals of the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Tamera Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Jada Brown added 11 points and eight rebounds for Centennial.

Riverdale Baptist is ranked No. 8 nationally by USA Today.

Desert Pines 63, Sunrise Mountain 56 — At Desert Pines, Cydney Myles scored 25 points, and Chrystian Myles added 14 points to help the Jaguars down the Miners.

Raven Thomas added 10 points for the Jaguars.

Brittney Veal had 18 points, and Jenae Yurek-Carhee added 14 points for Sunrise Mountain, which got 12 points from Azia McBrown.

Boulder City 65, Tech 25 — At Boulder City, Katlyn Daly tallied 20 points to lift the Eagles over the Roadrunners.

Alyssa Ybarra added 12 points, Megan Morton scored 11, and Jana Williams had 11 steals for Boulder City.

Haylee Holsclaw paced Tech with 14 points.
