ROUNDUP: Tapusoa propels Palo Verde girls to opening win in Phoenix

Lily Tapusoa had 20 points and 10 rebounds Monday to help Palo Verde’s girls basketball team to a 57-48 win over Perry (Ariz.) in the opening round of the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.
Jasmin Kiley added 15 points for the Panthers, who saw their 28-21 halftime lead slip away when the Pumas rallied to take a 42-41 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Megan Crenshaw led Perry with 19 points.
Orange Lutheran (Calif.) 61, Liberty 39 — At Phoenix, the Lancers used a 16-4 third-quarter run to break open a close game and down the Patriots in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
Alena Evans led Liberty with 14 points.
Krissy Karr scored 12 points for Orange Lutheran, which made 28 of 32 free throws.
Legacy 48, Salpointe (Ariz.) 33 — At Phoenix, Shakita Cox drained a pair of 3-pointers to spark a game-clinching run as the Longhorns pulled away from Salpointe in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
Legacy led by a mere two points before outscoring Salpointe by 13 in the final two minutes of the game.
Martia Moore had five steals and four assists for the Longhorns.
Sierra Vista 51, Savanna (Calif.) 36 — At Anaheim, Calif., Melia Tadytin had 14 points and Jeanette Jackson scored 13 to lead the Mountain Lions to the win in the Savanna Tournament.
Sierra Vista outscored the Rebels 38-15 in the middle quarters.
Eastlake (Wash.) 66, Basic 34 — At San Diego, Eastlake raced to a 20-8 first-quarter lead and never looked back in topping Basic in the Surf ’n’ Slam Tournament.
Kailai Brantner paced Basic with 13 points.
Francis Parker (Calif.) 62, Desert Pines 36 — At San Diego, the Lancers grabbed a 35-23 halftime lead and pulled away from the Jaguars in the opening round of the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
TaQuiyyah Boyles scored 14, and teammate Cydney Myles added 13 points for Desert Pines.
