ROUNDUP: Wharton, Viking girls top Chargers

Kennedy Wharton scored 16 of her 22 points in the first half Friday and had 15 rebounds and three assists to lead Valley’s girls basketball team to a 47-35 win at Clark.

Gabby Cabanero had 17 points, six steals and three assists for the Vikings, who led 24-14 at the half.

Bobbi Floyd paced the Chargers with 14 points.

Basic 54, Durango 49 — At Durango, Jayla Brown had 21 points to help the Wolves withstand a late rally for a victory over the Trailblazers.

Dana Deloney added 18 points for Basic, which led 27-16 at halftime.

Jazmine Chavez had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Trailblazers, who took a one-point lead with 1:20 remaining before fading down the stretch. Vanae Thomas added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Durango.

Cheyenne 55, Eldorado 50 — At Eldorado, Lajuana Brown scored 19 points to help the Desert Shields rally from a 22-20 halftime deficit to beat the Sundevils.

Bria Buchanan added 16 points for Cheyenne.

Denisheun Jackson scored 25 points to lead Eldorado, which committed 38 turnovers.

Arbor View 52, Western 32 — At Western, Dana Lewis scored 14 points, and the Aggies raced to a 19-5 first-quarter lead on their way to a win over the Warriors.

Ariona Gill added 13 points for Arbor View.

Capricia Pierce led Western with 12 points, and teammate Destiny Gonzalez added 10 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Las Vegas 63, Desert Pines 43 — At Desert Pines, Shomari Harris scored 19 points, and Matti Ventling added 16 points to lead the Wildcats over the Jaguars.

Chrystian Myles scored 12 points, and Cydney Myles added 11 points for Desert Pines, which got 10 points from Raven Thomas.

Shadow Ridge 32, Mojave 28 — At Mojave, Viana Perez scored eight points to help the Mustangs edge the Rattlers.

Sade Armstrong scored nine points to lead Mojave, which fell short with a second-half rally.

Serra (Calif.) 64, Liberty 46 — At La Jolla, Calif., Serra topped the Patriots in the La Jolla (Calif.) Sweet 16 Tournament.

Sydney Clark had 10 points and four assists, and Dayanni Cochran added six points and eight rebounds for the Patriots.

Laughlin 51, Sandy Valley 28 — At Laughlin, Patricia Valdez scored 24 points, and the Cougars jumped out to a 24-4 first-quarter lead on their way to a win over the Sidewinders.

Diana Durazo added 10 points for Laughlin.

Michaela Goodwin led Sandy Valley with nine points.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
