2018 The Meadows Football Capsule

THE MEADOWS

League: Class 2A Southern

Head coach: Jack Concannon, second season (3-6)

2017 record: 3-6 (3-4 Southern, fifth place)

Returning lettermen: 10

Returning starters: 6 offense, 6 defense

Base offensive set: Double wing

Base defensive set: 3-3

Top offensive players: RB Peter Hoskins (Sr.); QB Michael Corrigan (So.)

Top defensive players: DL Justin Badoyen (Sr.); DL Reece Iriye (Jr.)

Top newcomers: OL/DL Kwame Kufuor (Jr.); DL Bruce Becker (Sr.)

Key losses: OL/DL: Frederick Mossler, OL/DL Ron Ortiz

Outlook: The Mustangs missed the postseason by one game last year, but are set to spend the season playing eight-man because of lack of numbers..

The biggest challenge for The Meadows will be replacing Mossler and Ortiz on the line in order to give its double wing time to work. Hoskins figures to be the feature back in the offense this year after grabbing the second-most yards last year. Corrigan attempted only eight passes last year as a freshman, and it will be interesting to see if his role expands this season.

Concannon said he was optimistic about the team’s future, and hopes to bring the school back to its glory days. The Mustangs have eight state championships to their name, including back-to-back rings in 2008 and 2009.

“We’re trying to be fast, we’re trying to be elusive, and we have to try to tackle,” Concannon said.
