Arbor View ground game, defense thwart Durango

Anthony Smith capped a 10-play, 78-yard opening drive with a 22-yard touchdown run Thursday to help Arbor View’s football team start fast and post a 34-3 win over visiting Durango.
Smith, who finished with 67 yards on nine carries, added a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the third-ranked Aggies (6-0, 2-0 Northwest).
Jimmie Finister added scoring runs of 16 and 4 yards for Arbor View, which rushed for 380 yards on 57 carries.
Finister finished with 86 yards on 11 carries, and teammate Salah Boyce added 82 yards on nine carries.
Arbor View held the Trailblazers (3-3, 1-1) to 59 yards of offense, all of them on the ground. Durango was 0-for-6 passing.
Jacob Speaks had the game’s only reception, hauling in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Rasheem Parks.
Durango’s only points came on Elio Rodriguez’s 32-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
