Bum ankle doesn’t stop Berglund

Spring Valley senior quarterback Brant Berglund compiled 285 total yards and a touchdown on a bad ankle to spark the Grizzles (2-0) to a 22-12 road victory over Valley (0-1) on Friday.

Berglund suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter after a 64-yard run that set up a Spring Valley touchdown. He stayed in the game and finished with 171 yards passing and 114 rushing.

“I didn’t want to let my team down.” Berglund said after the game.
Valley could not capitalize on five turnovers by the Grizzles, including three interceptions by Berglund.

Vikings running back Kennedy Williams gained 165 yards on 27 carries, scoring twice, and Juan Batiste recovered a fumble and made an interception.
