August 29, 2008 - 1:50 pm
Jorge Armendariz hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Mecham with 4:28 to play to give Carlin a 36-32 home win over Tonopah on Thursday night.
The game was a rematch of last year's Class 1A state title game, which Tonopah won 54-20.
The Muckers took the lead with 8:58 to go on Scott Thibodeaux's 80-yard kickoff return. Thibodeaux then passed to Jeffrey Blackburn for the two-point conversion to make it 32-24.
It was Thibodeaux's second 80-yard kickoff return of the game.
But Mecham had a 3-yard TD run to cut the lead to two, then tossed his third TD pass of the night to win it for the Railroaders.
Mecham finished with 224 passing yards, and also ran for two scores.
Thibodaux rushed for 76 yards, and passed for 109 yards and a TD. Tonopah's Mike Dolfin rushed for 126 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. Dolfin also led the Muckers defensively with 14 tackles.
