College offers pouring in for Arbor View lineman King

The Arbor View football program has become known in recent seasons for churning out talented offensive linemen.

Senior Keenen King is the latest college prospect off the Aggies' assembly line.

King was offered a scholarship by Boise State late Monday, and the 6-foot-5-inch, 308-pound tackle now holds offers from nine Football Bowl Subdivision schools.

"I'm just trying to enjoy it right now with my family and take it as it comes," King said before practice Tuesday. "I don't want to rush anything and get crazy with it. I'm just trying to wait and find out where I want to go for sure."

As a freshman, King learned behind Elijah George and Thomas Newton, who now play at Oregon and UNR, respectively. Two of his teammates from last year's offensive line — Blake Coggins (UNLV walk-on) and Malik Noshi (Northern Arizona) — also moved on to the college level.

King is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, and his mobility stands out to recruiters, according to Arbor View coach Dan Barnson. King has paved the way for an Aggies rushing attack that is averaging 290 yards per game.

Arbor View (4-1) visits Desert Oasis (4-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.

"The one thing with him is he blocks outside very, very well," Barnson said. "When he pulls to the outside, there's this big body coming around the end, and a big body like him versus a high school cornerback, it can be intimidating."

King said he plans to make official visits to Arizona State, Boise State, Oregon State and Washington State and is leaving his fifth visit open. A coach from Oregon State visited King at school Tuesday, and an assistant from Utah State was at Friday's game against Basic.

King also counts offers from Colorado, Colorado State, San Diego State and UNLV.

"I'm not sure yet if I want to start a new era or if I want to be in a program that's already winning," King said of his hometown school. "I'm looking for somewhere I'm comfortable, something close to home where I can see my family ... and a place where I fit in."

* MILLER PICKS SUU — Palo Verde senior Taylor Miller, who helped the Panthers' boys basketball team reach the Division I state final last season, made an oral commitment to Southern Utah.

The 6-1 guard averaged 14.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists as a junior and was a second-team All-Southwest League selection. Miller's season highlight came in the state semifinals when he made a pull-up, 15-foot jumper with 10 seconds remaining to give Palo Verde a 50-48 victory over Canyon Springs.

Miller originally pledged to Southern Utah in June, but his commitment was made public late Monday on Twitter. He is expected to serve a two-year church mission and enroll in 2018.

* POLL POSITIONS — Arbor View's girls soccer team moved up four spots to No. 9 in the USA Today/NSCAA Region VII poll after Monday's 3-1 home victory over Coronado. The Cougars fell to No. 15.

Bishop Gorman's boys soccer team, which has lost two straight games, is ranked fifth in the Region VIII poll, while Green Valley checked in at No. 11.

* FOOTBALL FORFEIT — Calvary Chapel will forfeit Friday's Division III Southern League football game at Needles. It is the third time the Lions (0-5) have forfeited this season.

Calvary Chapel, which started the season with only 16 players, has been outscored 121-20 this season and has abandoned more quarters of football (13½) than it has played (10½).
