Edwards runs free for Legacy in romp over Clark

Legacy’s Deshae Edwards took the field Friday thinking he might be in for a big night.
His hunch proved correct, as the junior running back rushed seven times for 214 yards and four touchdowns in the first half to lead the ninth-ranked Longhorns to a 49-13 home victory over Clark.
“After the first series when we started moving the ball, I knew the offense was opening big holes for us,” Edwards said.
But the defense gave Legacy (3-0) its first score, with Albert Wolmack returning a Chargers fumble 15 yards on the game’s second play to make it 6-0.
Edwards, who sat out the second half, extended the Longhorns’ first-half advantage to 21-0 with TD runs of 14 and 36 yards over the next 10 minutes.
“Deshae plays with a big heart,” Longhorns coach David Snyder said. “I really expect big things from him.”
Clark (0-3) made the most of a Legacy fumble early in the second quarter, recovering in Longhorns territory and scoring minutes later on a 1-yard plunge by Andre Clay.
But Edwards’ TD runs of 55 and 77 yards in the second quarter helped put the game out of reach for Legacy, which amassed 454 yards while holding the Chargers to 142. The Longhorns led 35-7 at halftime.
Legacy’s Prince Oroke, who carried seven times for 118 yards, scored on a 28-yard sprint up the middle early in the third quarter, and teammate Darren Barnes’ 1-yard run four minutes later made it 49-7.
“That’s the first time our offense has really come out and put something big together,” Snyder said. “We got on the board early, and I think that really helped us.”
Chargers reserve quarterback Devohn Marks completed his only pass, a 49-yard strike to Jimmy Hiett, to help Clark score late in the fourth quarter.
Andre Clay carried 16 times for 16 yards to help the Chargers.
