Farella scores three times in first quarter as Cougars roll

Coronado's John Farella scored three times in the first quarter Thursday — two passing, one rushing — to help the Cougars beat visiting Del Sol, 43-8.
Farella completed 15 of 20 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns and added 51 yards on the ground on six carries with a score.
Del Sol jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead as Victor Pierce returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a score. Coronado (4-4, 3-1 Southeast) answered on the next play as Jackson Cofer ran for an 80-yard touchdown, giving the game two scores within the first 40 seconds.
Cofer finished with 85 yards on the ground and made four catches for 57 yards.
The Dragons (0-8, 0-4) were led by Austin Higgins, who ran for 133 yards on 23 carries, and Rashaun Lawson who rushed for 49 yards on 17 attempts.
