Mountain View will have a new football and baseball coach next season.
The Saints announced Frank DeSantis, most recently the athletic director at The Meadows, will join Mountain View’s athletic department, looking to revamp two of the schools’ most historically accomplished programs.
“I believe that Frank is a future member of the Nevada Sports Hall of Fame,” Mountain View principal Raymond LeBouef said in a release. “Our present and future school families will be blessed to benefit from Frank’s knowledge, experience and guidance.”
DeSantis was twice named Class 2A Athletic Director of the Year by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association while with The Meadows, where he coached football and baseball.
In 14 seasons, DeSantis led the football team to seven state titles and nine championship game appearances, and the Mustangs’ 41 consecutive wins in 11-man football were the state record at the time. His baseball teams made the playoffs in 10 straight seasons and won the 1996 state title.
“His experience and connections in the community are a valuable asset to this organization and our department,” Mountain View athletic director Kaitlin Glover said in a release.
DeSantis also had stops as the football coach for Cimarron-Memorial and Eldorado. He coached baseball at UNLV, and was the team’s catcher from 1979 to 1982 before being drafted in the eighth round by the Chicago Cubs.
The Saints have not made the playoffs in football since 2013, but made the playoffs seven seasons in a row prior to that, finishing as the runner-up for the state title three times. Mountain View went 0-7 last season.
In baseball, the Saints missed the playoffs the last two seasons after making it in 2014 and 2015. They were 2-19 in 2017.
