Gorman dominates Desert Oasis

Bishop Gorman’s football team dominated in all three phases of the game and scored touchdowns on its first eight possessions Friday on its way to a 63-0 win over visiting Desert Oasis (2-8) in a Sunset Region quarterfinal.

Quarterback Tate Martell connected on a 40-yard TD strike to Alize Jones, and backup QB Danny Hong provided a 6-yard option keeper score to make it 14-0 early in the first quarter.

Gorman’s Nico Fertitta cradled a tipped pass, ran to the left sideline and reversed field down the right sideline for a 35-yard interception return to put No. 1 Gorman (11-0) up 21-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter.

Russell Booze supplied a 59-yard TD sprint off the left end and down the left sideline to push the lead to 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Hong hit Jones on a jump ball in the back right corner of the end zone for an 8-yard TD, and Biaggio Walsh and Jonathan Shumaker each contributed a touchdown run to make it 49-0 at half.

Hong, who completed 10 of 11 passes for 147 yards, added a 33-yard hookup to Austin Arnold, and Walsh (101 yards rushing) plunged in for a 1-yard TD to cap the scoring.
