Green Valley’s Phillips remains in fair condition

A Green Valley High School football player remained in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital on Monday while recovering from a bruised spine caused by an injury suffered Friday.

LaQuan Phillips, 17, successfully underwent surgery Sunday to alleviate swelling in his vertebrae. He has no bones broken, said Phillips’ aunt, Delphine Lakes.

Though Phillips’ recovery has gone well, doctors have not yet given a timetable for when he might be able to return home, Lakes said.

Phillips, a senior defensive back, was injured in an apparent collision during the second quarter of Green Valley’s 24-20 home loss to Centennial on Friday.
