High school football games to watch — Week 4

Here are the top games to watch for Week 4 of the high school football schedule (Sept. 7):

IMG Academy (Florida) at Liberty, 7 p.m.

Liberty considers itself one of the top football programs in the nation, and it will get a shot against indisputably one of the best. The Patriots clash with the big dogs, who have won 37 games in a row dating back to 2014. IMG is still somewhat of a mystery to west coast fans, as its football team has only traveled west of Texas twice this decade.

The Ascenders are to football what Findlay Prep is to basketball. They don’t compete for Florida state championships, but still pump out some of the best prep players in the nation every year. A win would be easily the most momentous in Liberty’s storied history.

Green Valley at Canyon Springs, 7 p.m.

A rematch of last year’s Sunrise Region semifinals, the Pioneers allowed two first-quarter touchdowns but shut down Green Valley the rest of the way. The problem was they only scored once, and were denied a trip to their first region title game.

Javvion Pugh will look to change that. He rushed for 597 and eight touchdowns last year, and will slot in as the feature back for Canyon Springs this year. Conference realignment keeps these two from meeting in a region playoff this year, but look for an exciting game before league play begins.

Arbor View at Legacy, 7 p.m.

The Battle of the Bulls is no longer a league game with Legacy’s move to the Northeast League, but that didn’t stop these two from scheduling the rivalry a nonleague chapter. Legacy has not won the trophy since a 7-0 victory in 2013, a game in which both quarterbacks combined to go for 3-for-7 for 56 yards.

Though no longer league opponents, they play in the same region and it’s not hard to envision a Part 2 in the postseason, just like the last two years.
