Jaguars ride Grayson’s arm to victory over Virgin Valley

Sophomore quarterback Marckell Grayson threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns Thursday to lead Desert Pines’ football team to a 42-6 win over visiting Virgin Valley.

Desert Pines (5-1, 3-1 Sunrise) took control of the game on its opening drive, an eight-play, 70-yard march capped by an 8-yard run by Isaiah Morris. A 2-point conversion gave Desert Pines an 8-0 lead. Virgin Valley (3-3, 1-2) answered with a 10-yard touchdown run by Kai Mitchell early in the second quarter to cut the lead to 8-6.

From there, it was all Jaguars. A 32-yard pass from Grayson to Andre Watts increased the lead to 14-6. After an interception, Jordan Diggs exploded for a 47-yard touchdown run to give the Jaguars a 20-6 lead. After regaining possession, Grayson connected with Watts again, this time on a 26-yard touchdown pass for a 28-6 halftime lead.

Virgin Valley was led by Junior Paongo’s 96 yards rushing and Diego Burriel’s 50 yards receiving.

The Jaguars recorded five interceptions.
