Legacy runs away from Diamondbacks in Homecoming rout

Staked to a 21-point halftime lead, Legacy coach Dave Snyder decided to reach into his bag of tricks to open the second half Friday night against Desert Oasis.
Snyder called for an onside kick, which worked to perfection as the Longhorns easily recovered.
That play ignited a second-half scoring-spree, as Legacy tacked on 34 points in the final 24 minutes to run away with a 55-0 Homecoming win.
“The onside kick sure took a lot of wind out of their (Desert Oasis) sail,” Snyder said. “We had established the run in the first half, and we wanted to carry that momentum into the third quarter.”
The Longhorns did just that.
Following the recovery, Legacy scored on a 10-play, 40-yard drive which culminated in a 2-yard TD run from LaMarus Williams and a 27-0 advantage.
From there, the Longhorns cruised, turning back-to-back Desert Oasis fumbles into touchdowns.
Legacy (4-3, 2-1 Southwest) gained 449 yards on the ground, with 213 of those being supplied by Charles Julian, who scored twice.
“Our offensive line did a fantastic job tonight,” said Snyder, who saw seven different players carry the ball during the rout. “The line dominated the line of scrimmage, which was the difference in the game. We have plenty of work left, with games coming up with Cimarron and Centennial.”
Julian scored on TD runs of 7 and 49 yards on his way to gaining 157 yards in the first half.
Even though the Longhorns had a big night on the ground, it was the lone Legacy completion that produced the first points of the night. Quarterback Kashawn Richardson found Joe Murray along the far sideline, who ran 74 yards for the score.
Desert Oasis (1-6, 0-3) managed to move the ball in the opening quarter, gaining 101 total yards.
However, the Diamondbacks turned the ball over four times in the final three quarters, accumulating just 30 yards.
Diamondbacks quarterback Herman Smith completed 12 of 25 passes for 137 yards, with Marvin Duty hauling in five catches for 56 yards.
Isaiah Purdy added 89 yards on 10 carries and a 36-yard score for Legacy, which had seven total rushing touchdowns.
