McKinney leads Mountain Lions over Miners

Sierra Vista backup quarterback Deyon McKinney rushed for 147 yards and passed for 95 as the Mountain Lions (1-1) rang up a 448-86 yardage edge in a 45-6 home win over Sunrise Mountain (1-1) on Friday.

Sierra Vista took a 22-0 first-quarter lead on TD runs by McKinney and Maliek Broady, and a 20-yard fumble return by Javen Nihipali’.

Broady ran for a 58-yard TD in the third quarter and had 146 yards on the ground, and Tim Jenkins caught an 11-yard TD pass from McKinney.

Sunrise Mountain’s Darryl Colvin intercepted McKinney and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Sherman Nash gained 44 yards on 11 carries.
