RECRUITING: Class of 2018 football players to watch
June 29, 2016 - 3:49 pm
Many teams rely on seniors to be the most productive players on and off the football field.
But for some Southern Nevada schools, leadership is found in the junior class.
Below are the consensus top recruits in the class of 2018, according to various recruiting websites. The list is made up of 10 athletes, coming from three schools.
The players are listed in alphabetical order:
Palaie Gaoteote, Bishop Gorman
The 6-foot-2-inch, 205-pound linebacker already has become one of the top defensive players in Southern Nevada. He has scholarship offers from several big-time Division I schools, including Auburn, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Southern California, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin.
Jacob Isaia, Bishop Gorman
The 6-3, 245-pound guard will be a major factor on Gorman’s massive line this season. He is receiving interest from Michigan State, UCLA and Washington.
Brevin Jordan, Bishop Gorman
Jordan will be one of the most coveted tight ends in the nation in the next two years, as he already has received scholarship offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Louisville, Oklahoma, Southern California, Texas A&M and UCLA. He will look to continue the Gaels’ tradition of having top tight ends. Gorman produced star tight ends Xavier Grimble (Southern California) and Alize Jones (Notre Dame) in the 2010 and 2015 classes, respectively.
Allan Mwata, Liberty
Mwata was used last year in the Patriots’ nickel defense, but will take an expanded role this season after having a stellar offseason. He has a scholarship offer from Brigham Young.
Jalen Nailor, Bishop Gorman
The 5-10 speedster probably will be one of the Gaels’ top playmakers this season, with the departure of Tyjon Lindsey. Nailor has received plenty of interest as a wide receiver, but has yet to see a formal scholarship offer.
Kenyon Oblad, Liberty
Oblad arguably is the area’s top pro-style quarterback in the class and has received scholarship offers from Brigham Young, Colorado State and San Diego State. It will be Oblad’s third year starting under center for the Patriots.
Adam Plant, Bishop Gorman
The 6-4, 240-pound defensive end earned his first scholarship offer from Southern California, but also is getting interest from Clemson, Florida State, Oregon and UCLA.
Marquez Powell, Liberty
The 6-4 wide receiver transferred from Green Valley, and will be a big weapon in the Patriots’ offense this season. He currently has a scholarship offer from Hawaii.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Bishop Gorman
Thompson-Robinson is the backup quarterback for the Gaels, but already has shown enough to receive scholarship offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, San Diego State, UCLA and Utah. The 6-2 gunslinger will be one of Southern Nevada’s top contributors once Tate Martell departs for Ohio State.
Elijah Wade, Arbor View
The 6-6, 215-pound defensive end will wreak havoc against Sunset Region teams this season, with the help of top 2017 recruit Greg Rogers. Wade already has scholarship offers from Brigham Young, Michigan, Southern California and Washington State.
