RECRUITING: Gorman defensive back Perry backs off Arizona State commitment

Bishop Gorman defensive back Alex Perry, a consensus four-star prospect in the class of 2017, announced his decommittment from Arizona State on Wednesday via Twitter.

"I've decided to De-Commit from ASU and open up my recruitment," Perry tweeted. "ASU is still a top pick for me, but I want to fully explore my options."

Perry, who also holds offers from Colorado, Oklahoma State, Memphis, UNLV and Utah, was a first-team all-state defensive back last season after finishing with three interceptions and 27 tackles for Gorman. He also had 4½ tackles for loss and a sack as Gorman claimed its second consecutive mythical national championship.

Perry's older brother, Armand, is a redshirt sophomore on Arizona State's football team.

Gorman quarterback Tate Martell, a Texas A&M commit, began recruiting his teammate just minutes after the initial tweet.

"#GigEmGang17!" Martell tweeted while quoting Perry's tweet.
